I don’t think you’ve got what it takes for JHU, Cornell or Columbia. UNC is a little too ambitious for you also. A 2.9 tells me that either you go straight C’s (which may aswell be failures in themselves) or you actually FAILED a few courses. Ivies are going to care. They don’t want mediocre students. It’s very good that you raised your GPA, but you can’t justify your past mistakes no matter what the excuse. Stick with your state schools.

Thanks for the input. I’m so glad you’re chancing me solely on my past GPA.

Any other takers?

Well, depending on the fact that you seem incapable of differentiating between your and you are, I’d say, don’t aim so high.

the thing that could hurt you is that a lot of people do well in spite of personal hardship because school motivates them and it might be all they have.

I don’t see why UNC Chapel Hill, Miami or Florida would be a problem if you bring your cumulative up to about a 3.5
But then again, I’m just a 20 year old transfer applicant as well so I’m not sure. Personally, I’d admit you into any of those schools because you’re bright, have a need to transfer (as in you’re not transferring up from Harvard to Yale like half of the people here, you’re actually transferring from a school that you can’t possibly stay at if you want to achieve your life goals), and you’ve done well in a field that is a lot harder than business

ever heard of an iPod Touch?

also, I wouldn’t pay attention to reachin4ivy and ThrowingMuses.

According to my degree audit my current cumulative GPA is a 3.9.

how did you raise your GPA from a 2.9 to a 3.9? You’re only 17

A 2.9 can happen to a motivated student, but you’re going to want to address it in your app essays. Clearly you’ve managed to yank your GPA up, so it won’t sink you if you do that. You’ll have a shot at one of the transfer-friendly Cornell colleges (e.g. CALS), but having a shot isn’t necessarily indicative of anything but being considered. It’s really hard to chance for Ivies simply because of the number of qualified applicants they have. UNC shouldn’t be terribly difficult for you, though.

Straight A’s. And I didn’t add the courses I did well in during my previous major I got “WF” for a few courses and that’s why my GPA dropped. Students took one class every 28 days at my old school, it was a bad couple of months.

And I’m almost 18! I was home schooled.

EDIT: I turn 18 on MONDAY :)

I don’t want to jump the gun here, but…

Sound familiar? You replied to my thread, but you never addressed the similarities. Is this something that you just weren’t prepared to mention?

So, mabe I did take inspration info from your thread. I mean what better story? All I did since I graduated was party in new york. Colleges, and ppl in genral aren’t going to look kindly on that.

Grow up, kid.
We all make mistakes. It’s all in how we bounce back. I fight hard against my demons every single day. The guilt is immense and the stakes are high. My family support system is barely there anymore. My parents grew tired of the constant disappointment and broken promises and yet the still help me pay tuition.
After losing my job I escaped to NYC for 2 months. I had already made the decision to eventually study medicine. I found the source of my resolve and there’s no way in hell that I will come out of this losing.
Take a moment to realize a few things. It’s not the school’s name that makes your education exceptional. Proust is still Proust, even at UM. Since according to prev. posts you consider it a sub-par institution.

P.S. to readers. I’m not saying that top schools aren’t exceptional. I’m just saying that what you gain, both in regards to personal growth and academic fortitude, has very little to do with a school’s name. What you gain depends on you.

Oh boo hoo. Atleast I stand a chance at getting into a TOP school. My real GPA is a 3.9. You don’t…go to your stupid little public school. Your just off because I’m younger than u are and two years ahead of you.

atara, you might want to tone down the hubris just a bit. I think you’re bright, but flaming other members here on CC is not the way to go.

It’s not flaming, it’s true. EgoSurfing is being a hater. It’s just so easy, I don’t understand how people could just fail like that. egosurfings depression is all in there head. Build a bridge and get over it.

we’ve all felt sad. you’re diagnosis is no excuse.

I figured out who you are. =)
Howdy neighbor! You’re less than 150 ft away! And, according to your momma, you found my house’s public network.
Man, I knew the world was small, little J, I just didn’t realize how small.
I should’ve put it together sooner. There aren’t many 17 year old sophomores @ MDC-Kendall. 'sides your b-day gave it away.
Maybe we should chat sometime. I used to have a very similar mind set and I would hate for someone else to have to go through what I did. I’m here to help. :)
