PLEASE LET ME KNOW WHAT SCHOOLS ARE SAFETY SCHOOLS, REACH SCHOOLS, ETC. Do I have a chance in any of these schools? Thanks!
I think Georgia Tech is a high reach too. Virginia Tech is a reach if you are from Nova. Low reach if you are from another part of the state. I know someone who did not get into VT for engineering, but was accepted as a science major. Since you were deferred for ED, you might ask admissions about being considered for a different science program as well. You can also see what the options are for transferring into Engineering after freshman year.
Dude, I think it’d be helpful if we knew what the lower grades on your transcript were in. If they’re in math or science classes, you could get the shaft at a few of these. I can see UMD, Virginia Tech and Clemson happening. And even though you were deferred at Virginia Tech, I think they’ll probably end up taking you too. My guidance counselor said that people can get deferred if the school feels they need to compare the student to the applicants in the later round. She said they’ll do that if there’s anything that makes them feel there might be something equal or better in the regular round. They can also defer you if they feel they need the first semester grades to make a better decision. You can still get accepted there and I think you probably will, unless you hosed around and messed up in critical math and science classes.
Georgia Tech is a maybe.
UVA is a serious reach, but again, I don’t know how well your essays were written and what your science and math specific grades are.
Congrats! I figured you’d get in!!! Sounds like they just wanted to check your 1st semester grades to make sure you were on track, and you obviously were. Happy for you.
