Chance Me Plz!!!! -HYPSM+UCs

I am a freshman aiming high (unrealistically lol) Below are my stats, some of them are goals that I hope to accomplish in high school, some I accomplished already:

PERSONAL:

  • Asian Female
  • US Student with Residency
  • Quadrilingual (I don’t know if it’s a word, English, Chinese, French, Spanish)
  • First Gen
  • Moved to US 7th to 8th summer

GRADES:

  • 4.83 W, 4.00 UW
  • 1/791 (yeah huge class)
  • Public school in Orange County, CA

STANDARDIZED AND STUFF:

  • SAT: 1540 (740ENG+800MATH) I took it in eighth grade so I will most likely take it again freshman->sophomore summer and I’m aiming for 1580, most likely will happen since I got perfect score once in a while on practice tests
  • ACT: 35 or 36 (GOAL)
  • SAT 2: Math 2 800, Bio M 760, French w/ Listening 770 (will take Physics in May, hopefully I get close to 800)
  • AP: Chinese (5)

FUTURE ACADEMIC PLANS (in school only):
Sophomore yr: AP Physics I, AP Euro, AP Span Lang, Honors English, Honors Precalc, AP Compsci (have coded for a while, I will just take it, teacher at school sucks a lot)
Junior yr: AP Physics C, APUSH, AP Span Lit, AP Lang, AP Calc BC
Senior yr: AP Gov, AP Econ (Macro+micro), AP Lit, AP Chem (possibly), AP Stats

  • hopefully I can get all 5’s on the AP’s if not 4 would be fine I assume?
  • if I have free period I’ll probably be teacher assistant for french teacher who is also the Academic Decathlon coach (and I’m on the team)

EC:

  • Marching band (2 years only, too much work; our band won 1st this year and last year but I wasn’t in last year, but it’s not personal achievement apparently)
  • Academic decathlon (did Pentathlon before, got 3 metals in Art, Science and Math, didn’t do it this year, hopefully I can get more than three metals county-wise next year)
  • SciOly (try to run for event leader next year, hopefully i can make it)
  • California Scholarship Federation
  • Music Club (volunteering at senior centers and stuff)
  • National Honors Society (GOAL, I want to run for ec and then prez or vp some day)
  • School Newspaper
  • Editor-in-chief of the monthly newsletter of a GREAT community STEM-related organization, will be in student council next year and become a president for one of the sub-organizations (how GREAT this organization is may be reflected by the more-than-thirty Ivies and HYPSM ppl every year I guess? )
  • Estimated Service Hours in 4 years: more than 600 (with medals in PVSA every year)
  • More may be added throughout the years

AWARDS:

  • Piano CM Advanced (at the age of 13) with 100% on theory
  • Have performed as piano soloist at Weill (Carnegie)
  • AIME Qualifier x2 (8th+fr)
  • I hope that I can qualify for USAMO at least JMO once in my high school career, it’s not that far away since I got 132 on AMC 10+7 on AIME this year
  • ARML
  • Math Prize for Girls Qualifier (8th grade, I think I will qualify this year?)
  • USAPhO Semifinalist (8th grade, not this year rip)
  • County-wise science fair winner as freshman, hopefully I can qualify for ISEF some time and ideally be a STS semifinalist

Could anyone please chance me for the TOP schools like HYPSM and the other Ivies? I think I will choose some of the UC’s as safety. Though, I am still a freshman so… um… things change fast. Some of the stuff listed above are just my (hopeless) dreams and goals. I really need some advice on future plans. My intended majors are definitely STEM related ones as you can tell I am just better in those areas. I am thinking of applied math (or physics, I really can’t choose between the two) with a minor in compsci (yeah it’s so important and useful in the future).

Oh right I forgot to include summer stuff:
CTY-7th to 8th, 8th to 9th
AwesomeMath or MathCamp or just stay home and do science research-9th to 10th (I qualified for both AwesomeMath and MathCamp but idk if I should go, I personally think that I should stay home and focus on my science research to have a larger likelihood to win, and I am not THAT into PURE math, I am surely a math person, but I don’t want to major in pure math, I think my AIME score could improve practicing on my own, ugh I wish i can qualify for usamo badly some time)

HYPSM = reaches for everyone

You have a 90-96% chance of being rejected from all/nearly all those schools you mentioned. There are lots of kids with amazing stats being shut out of top universities, so anyone who says you have a chance is simply guessing at this point.

You are a competitive applicant. Your stats and ECs are good. Get two 700s+ on SAT subject tests and be in the top 10% of your class. Develop a “spike” in your ECs. If you are interested in STEM, join STEM related clubs. Get leadership in those clubs. Do research at local universities. Apply for ISEF. Focus your ECs around a similar theme, get leadership, and get awards. Write great essays and you could get accepted to any of these schools
