List of schools I'm tryin to get in and please chance me for them:

Stanford
MIT
Princeton
Caltech
Cornell
Columbia
Purdue
UC Berkeley
USC
Uni of michigan - ann arbor
Uni of washington st louis

btw i forgot to mention

income: low

received scholarship to private school.

bump.........

Stanford - Reach
MIT - Reach
Princeton - Reach
Caltech - Reach
Cornell - Semi-Reach
Columbia - Semi-Reach
Purdue - Safety
UC Berkeley - Match
USC - Match - Slight safety
Uni of michigan - ann arbor - Match - Slight safety
Uni of washington st louis - Slight-Reach

HYPSMC are pretty much reach for everyone (except the really gifted)

Look, if you are really first in your class and in a top flight private school in New Zealand, then you have good to excellent chances at most of these schools. Especially with 800/720 SAT IIs. (760/760 is MIT's average, which is the highest of all of these schools).

Your AI (academic index) is about 229-230 with great ECs and a full IB diploma program. (240 is the maximum AI possible)

P.S. My son's sailing partner in high school was admitted and is currently at MIT, his best friend went to Cal Poly SLO, and his next best friend to UC Berkeley (in-state) for Engineering. They (and my son) were all in the IB programs also. (My son didn't do quite as well, but he's still at Indiana University--which is great for him since he's a business/pre-law major--which is one of Indiana University's specialties).

Stanford--Match to Slight Reach
MIT--Match to Slight Reach
Princeton--Match to Slight Reach
Caltech--Match to Slight Reach
Cornell--Safe Match w/some money
Columbia--Match
Purdue--Safety
UC Berkeley--Match to Slight Reach (OOS)
USC--Safe Match w/money
Uni of michigan - ann arbor--Safe Match w/honors and money
Uni of washington st louis--Match

Best of success to you.

I think you have a good chance.

But you're seriously trying to stuff in all the ECs...

For schools such as Stanford and Harvard and Princeton, you'll get kicked out immediately (no matter how good your academics are). When a reader (like me), reads your ECs, he/she should get a sense of who you are. Having many, many ECs do not reflect who you are. Try to select some key achievements in reflection of your personalities.

Best Wishes

do u mean that Calcruzer...THX...(not being over gnerous i hope?)

for my ecs...i just havent thought carefully about them...im sure ive did more things that reflect my personality...

btw the SAT scores a predicted. but i know iwll do well in maths as it is my strongest subject.

Sadly, Calcruzer's estimates are extremely inflated.

You're an international. The competition is on an entirely different level. You have a decent chance.. great to see you involved in academics and sports and succeeding in both, however not many are 'matches' for the top schools you listed. And the number who are 'matches' from international schools is probably less than 10.

You have a shot. Just continue to excel, do as much as you can to show the universities that you are the best candidate out of New Zealand and you'll be well on your way. Make sure to spend a lot of time on your essays also, and just hope everything works out in your favor.

just wondering, does cornell, columiba and caltech offer financial aid at all to international students?

People last year told me I was overinflated also--but I had much better matches than most people.

Go look at the "how close were your chances?" thread on CC. If you will notice, there were lots of people complaining about how they were told that they were reaches at the top Ivies and then got in anyway. It should have been clear, of course, 10% will get in--and most of those people will post on here.

Yes, those colleges are difficult. But they are not so difficult that they don't take anyone to go there. People with perfect grades, great test scores, top-flight ECs, good volunteering, that come from great schools WILL get in. And yes, that's what we have here with Elvito.

Most of these schools like being able to say that they have at least one student from 110 countries--meaning they will take at least one person from each country--and you sound like you are at least in the top 3 students in New Zealand--so who else are they going to take but you? I disagree with WindSlicer totally and believe that you have better than a 55-58% chance of getting into at least one of the top 4 schools on this list. I've been posting on here for two years--and my estimates have been very good. Keep in mind, though, that my estimates are only good if your estimates of your continuing GPA and test scores are also good.

P.S. I do agree with Piannoyny, however, that you will need to give a sense of self to make your essays more effective. I'm presuming that you have lots of time to do this ---and that your posting here wasn't the way you plan to do your essays/"brag sheets" in your applications.
