i really want to go to this school! so plz chance me :)

Hey, looking at your stats your GPA looks really low. Extremely low for UW standards, the average for last years’ class was around a 3.6. But, your ACT isn’t bad at all and if you can get your SAT up to around a 1900 or higher your test scores are definitely in their ranges. Just focus on your GPA and work hard to show UW your academic potential. EC’s are decent.

Since you are in Seattle you should go to a Transfer Thursday at the UW. There you can speak directly with the admissions staff. Take your unofficial transcripts.

Transfer Thursdays probably are just during the regular school year, not summer, but check with the transfer office at your community college, they would know.

It is best to go to these Thursday sessions sooner rather than later. Don’t wait until right before you want to transfer.

Also get your essay done early and have your community college transfer office proof it. They offer this service at Seattle Central and I imagine the other CC’s too. Ask one of your English professors to proof it too, just don’t wait until the last minute, give them plenty of time.

dude, ur chances are not that great, u need at least a 2000+ on ur SAT and u need to do something about that gpa, hopefully those courses at teh CC will bring ur grades up. and idk give UW a reason why you have such low grades even if ur in IB.

Hi ethiopianguy14, I’m a fellow IB student who got admitted by UW just about a month ago, it would help if you could list what IB subjects & levels you’re taking, and your IB predicted grades (if your school has provided any). Usually, if you have a predicted of 35/42 or above (calculated from 6 subjects, disregarding the possible bonus points from Theory of Knowledge & Extended Essay), you’re pretty much golden in my opinion. But again, can’t say much until you tell us more about your IB predicted grades.

the fact that you immigrated from ethiopia, that you translate for refugees, volunteer, and engage in those other extracurriculars is magnificent.

your act is great and your sat is fine but the gpa is pretty low, youll have to talk to admissions

sorry to hijack the forum ethiopianguy, but I had a question for Kalifornian. Where in the east bay are you from? I am from Walnut Creek, and I am looking to apply to UDub next year. What made you choose UW over the UC system. Does Washington have a specific advantage? What studies are you pursuing in Washington. I hope to hear back from you!

THANKS KALIFORNIAN
ya i don’t know wat to do about the gpa to win over the admissions, i got running start classes as well as IB and i do better in those classes which are real college classes. hopefully i get in, and congrats on getting into the school

Im from danville Originally, I went to monte vista for my first two years but unforunately I had to live my last two years in orange county.

I picked UW over the UC schools because they all rejected me haha (excepted for UCSD who rejected me, accepted me, and then rejected me again). Even cal state long beach rejected me… California is messed up right now.

But if you are going to apply next year your going to have a better chance of getting into a UC because 2009 is the largest graduating class which made it harder for all of us to get into college this year.

I’m not really sure what I’m going to study yet but so far it looks like I’m going to try to get my premeds, I dont know wether the UC schools are better than UW but i do know for sure that UCs are much cheaper haha. Anyways, good luck applying next year

Chill, I am from Walnut Creek. How did you get rejected by Long Beach but get accepted into UW, strange. Looking at the national rankings UW is ranked ahead of Davis and Irvine. I would like to stay in California, but I really like Washington. My biggest concern is the price of tuition. I’m thinking about UC Merced, and St. Mary’s college.
