I think my advantage is that I have visited the campus and met with a member of the admission staff.

Although your standardized test scores are not competitive for Middlebury, I think you have a compelling story and have a fairly decent shot at being accepted.

I think you are a very compelling candidate…
Two suggestions:
Send your resume to the swim coach.
Find out if your high school is connected with the Posse Scholars Program…
information below
Posse Scholars come to Middlebury through a partnership with the Posse Foundation, which recruits public high school students with extraordinary academic and leadership potential and prepares them to succeed in the nation’s top colleges and universities.
Agree^^^^. Fill out the on-line athletic recruiting form today. Your ACT is 1 point lower than acceptable, and your SATs are low for Midd but not hopeless. Essay/recs should mention your drive, focus, and how you’ve overcome obstacles. Then I think you’re in!

Huh? 23 percent of enrolled students had an ACT score of 29 or lower…some much lower. Not all were athletes. Also, there were admitted students who scored 28 or lower on the ACT but chose to attend elsewhere.

Crew dad- I meant that as a positive, not a negative. I should have said it was 1 point below the middle decile of accepted students.
The students with those lower scores all had compelling reasons for admission, as does the OP. The Adcom will admit him if they think he can do the work.
