Chance me, pretty please?

College:LSA

ACT: 28 Composite, 29 English, 29 Reading, 28 Math, 24 Science, 9 Writing.

Unweighted GPA: 3.8

Class Rank: 12/108

Senior year course: AP Calc AB, AP English Lit, Physics, Psychology, World History/Geo, and the rest are electives, because I had already taken the most advanced courses at my school.

Junior Year: 1st Tri GPA: 3.8, 2nd Tri GPA: 3.9, 3rd Tri GPA: 4.0. I took Pre Calc, Chem, Vital Issues, Spanish 2, English, AP Stats (3 on AP exam), Government, and Economics. This was my best year Academically so far.

ECs: Varsity Competitive Cheer all four years. Sideline Cheer all four years. Soccer Junior year. Cheer Team Captain junior and senior year. National Honor Society. Member of Student Run Branch. About 200 Hours of Community Service. Worked at an ice cream shop the past two summers. Took a semester of Anthropology at a local Community College.

Essays: Great. I wrote about my parents divorce and my rocky relationship with my stepmom, but how that makes me more motivated to be a better person and taught me that not everything in life is easy/fair.

Letters of Rec: Great. My Cheer coach is also my math teacher and she wrote one. My Chem/Physics teacher wrote one also. My World History teacher wrote one as well.

Guidance Counselor Rec: Great, I would assume, she loves me and I'm in her office almost ever day asking questions :p

IS/OOS: I have lived in michigan since the 7th grade, and have gone/am graduating from a high school in Michigan. My mother works here, and I have worked here. But, my dad lives in Boston, so as of right now I am listed as OOS. I filled out a residency classification form, but that will take up to 3 months to review. I was just wondering if this would hurt my chances of acceptance, and if the admissions office will see that I do in fact live/go to school in Michigan. Will I qualify for in state tuition?

Ethnicity: Half Lebanese, Half Caucasian.

Gender: Female.

Thank you :D

idk, even being half lesbian I don’t think you’ll get in, maybe 40/60 or at best 50/50

Thanks for the honesty… :frowning:
That makes me upset though, Michigan was my top choice.

He did just say you were half lesbian, not Lebanese.

You’re OOS (but possibly in-state? It’s much easier for in-state) and an under-represented minority. I’d say you have a fairy good shot  and most people on CC are obscene about what they say everyone needs. Just wait it out :)

Haha I caught the Half Lesbian as soon as I read it. It’s a joke I’ve been hearing for a while now, and just ignore it instead of getting all worked up and defensive :stuck_out_tongue: thank you though, for your response :)

haha, ya. I was just kidding around. Being OOS and your ACT score is what worries me

Yeah, i definitely agree with you. I wish that they would’ve listen me as in-state, i called the residency office and the lady i spoke with said that me filling out the form sounding like just a formality, due to the fact that my mother and i both work/drive in Michigan, and I am claimed on my mother’s not my father’s taxes. I also would feel much better if my ACT was a 30. But I figured I’d give UMich a shot, and really hope I get in. If not, life will go on, but it will suck for a while. :/

I’m Lebanese and applying to Umich as well. Statistically, you are average for UMich. Your stats won’t get you rejcected, but they won’t get you in either. It all depends on how you write and the Recs. Remember that they hold oos applicants to a higher standard because they want a 2:1 ratio is to oos.

Is Lebanese a URM, as another poster said?

That was one of my questions. Will the admissions staff review me as OOS? I know they will technically, but will they see that on my common app I listed my current/permanent address as a Michigan residence? And that I live with my mother and attend high school in Michigan? Won’t they see that, and see that I will most likely be considered IS, and that the OOS is just a current formality (hopefully).

1shumans, Lebanese are considered caucasian! ;)

Bbbrown2015, Lebanese, like all Middle Easterns, are not consdered URM. URM applies purely to African Americans, Latin Americans and Native Americans.

At any rate, I agree, Michigan is a match. When did you complete your application?

I agree that you are a match

Haha I saw that it was considered caucasian, but find it funny, because when most people ask what nationality I am and I say Lebanese they have no idea what I’m talking about. I have to say, “You know, Lebanon…by Syria…by Israel, you know in the Middle East?”. I sent my application in October 31st, and I am extremely nervous. All 3 other kids at my school who applied got accepted, but they’re considered in state. My guidance counselor said she would call tomorrow and get everything straightened out, because it’s ridiculous that they would consider me OOS. My friend had a 26 ACT, 3.8 GPA, barely any hours of community service, nothing really spectacular and she got in, I was in shock. The main boot that I think kicked her in was the IS status, but who knows. I’m just hoping to get my (acceptance, fingers crossed) email tomorrow. thanks for the positive response though :)

Thank you Sam, I just hope Mich thinks so too :/
