Chance Me!!Promise to chance back-lots of research done

Hey guys,
I love you to chance me at these schools, I've done months of research on these schools but I want a more objective opinion on whether they are reaches, matches, etc. from this community. Also, I've listed multiple schools as EA or ED, for ED I'd only apply ED to one of them depending on the circumstances leading up to apps. Promise to chance back!As I've said, I've got months of info to help anyone out!

ED:
Williams
Cornell
Tufts
Pomona

EA:
UMich- Ann Arbor
OSU
Miami (OH)

RD:
USC
UC Berkeley
Georgetown
George Washington
Reed
Colgate
Middlebury
Vassar
NYU

Unweighted GPA (out of 4.0): 3.7
Rank (percentage): top 10-13%
AP (place score in parenthesis):Euro (5), US (5), Gov (4), Lit (4)

Reflection: (Personal difficulties, advantages, etc): lot of struggles with depression/suicide but I was able to pull myself out and work on my problems to the point where I haven't suffered from depression in 4 years, wrote a brutally honest essay about it for the common app. Tried to communicate how it ruined my childhood, especially with the absence of my father, but how I drew myself out of the situation- tried to communicate self-awareness.

Other: Have presented a lecture in front of 60+ students and faculty at my school every semester since my freshman year about Iran (geopolitics, culture, history, relations, art, etc). Highly acclaimed by both faculty and students alike, great relationship with sponsoring teacher (who will write a great rec letter I hope).

You have way too many schools on your list. If you have done as much research as you say, you should be able to eliminate some that wouldn’t be a good fit. Right now that is 22 schools. Realistically there is no way that you can write all the supplements for all of them and have them be quality pieces of work. Some, like Tufts, have multiple questions and can be time consuming. As a start, I recommend you take out the UCs, NYU, and GW as they can be very expensive and not offer a whole alot of aid.

Thanks shawnspencer, I’d just like to clear up though, I wasn’t planning to apply to all those universities but about 10 of them are iffy, I just posted them to see a wider range of opinions.

Pretty good chances at all the schools. I would try to pick up those scores and even GPA if possible.

Take off every OOS public if your family makes under $50K per year

I think you have a few too many reaches. Your GPA is relatively weak, as is your Math SAT. Your EC’s also aren’t standout.

Here’s what you need to do:

 1. narrow this list down to around 13-15.
 2. CRACK DOWN on the essays. Tell these schools why you’re the bomb.
 3. If you’re going Pre-Med, you should take Math II + either Bio (e/m), chem, or physics.

Good luck

BUMP

Wow, okay, I’d love to do something but that list is just too intimidating to even start!

Bump

too many colleges dude! All the supplemental essays will put you into overdrive. Remove some that don’t offer you good financial aid plans. Focus on the ones in which excel in their pre-med programs (I know that Tufts offers a TON of research opportunities to undergrads, this may work for your benefit in med school applications).

Your GPA and SAT are a bit low for some (Cornell, Vassar, Tufts, Northwestern, etc) but I believe that you have a chance. Make sure that you take your subject tests and do well on them (those are important factors).

Also make sure that your essays are great.

All in all, most of these schools are matches/high matches with the exception of a few low reaches.

Good luck man! I am a fellow middle eastern…do they count that for URM?

DON’T submit the alumni/legacy letters. Make you seem as privileged brat whose parents forced their friends to write you a letter. How do these people know you ? As acquaintances? If so then these letters cannot really help you.

Your GPA and course load seems good. SAT Math score needs to be higher. Highlight your middle eastern background, and work experience (Kumon/American Eagle)
