Curriculum: was not eligible for Honors classes Freshman year b/c transferred from Canadian middle school, and though I was placed in “Enriched” classes there my grades didn’t look stellar by American standards.
possible hooks: Asian fluent in French? (XD I used to live in Quebec) and I moved around a lot?

Teacher recs: should be good
Essay:
Common App: focus on my adaptation to new languages/settings throughout my life and the way I came to appreciate how words from different languages bring new perspective to a single meaning
Amherst: (Q2#)How Iris Chang’s “Rape of Nanking” novel effected me and how I’m now doing legacy in order to tell others’ stories that would otherwise be left untold.

Thank you~!

bumpity bump~ would appreciate some feedback!

How are your grades? And given your circumstances freshman year, have you taken as challenging a courseload as possible? Those are probably the most important two factors.

Assuming they are good (all/mostly A’s, most challenging courseload), you look like a strong applicant overall. Asian female won’t get you any bump from being in an underrepresented group, but Asian female who is fluent in French might.

my grades are decent. I have A’s in subjects except Honors Algebra II (B+) that appear on my transcript (which at this point would be up to Junior year). And yes, I’ve taken almost the most challenging course load possible, (I don’t even know how adcoms would be able to tell given nothing is indicated on our school transcripts about course rigor)…

the thing is, I’m not sure how I should the whole “hey, I’m fluent in French” thing in my app. I’m planning to pursue an English major, and my essay is pretty much decided at this point… hmmm… maybe concentrate on that in my “extracurriculars” in the commonapp section?

thank you~

The adcoms will know if you have taken the most rigorous courses based on the profile your counselor must fill out and send in (many schools have an attachment which explains how GPA was established, class rank, and the types of courses offered.) One of the things they are asked is to check off whether or not you took the most rigorous curriculum offered. And one of the jobs of the adcoms is to become familiar with your school.
