Can you chance me for colleges that I’m thinking about and recommend some that are a good fit? Any advice on how to improve my app will be great! I’ll be happy to chance back if you’d like! Thanks

Also, jobs include teaching piano and previously worked in my aunt’s restaurant.

You’re competitive for all of the schools. Are you a NYS resident? If so, you will not get any aid from any UC school, so you should take UCLA and Berkeley off your list. You are a good fit for NYU academically, but NYU gives really poor financial aid. Make sure to run a NPC.

@CaliCash Thank you! And yes I currently live in NY, so does it mean that I would have to pay full price for the Cali schools even after fin. aid, scholarships, etc? I only consider NYU since my sister got a huge package… I’m hoping that I will too.

Yes, those Cali schools would be full pay for you. The only out of state public schools I can think of off the top of my head that will meet full need are UVA and UNC Chapel Hill.

California UC’s give little to no financial aid to OOS students. They are public universities, funded by CA taxpayers. Financial aid is given to in-state students. You would only be eligible for Federal aid and student loans. Expect to pay $55K/year.

Edit: I don’t know if I should include this, but I also perform at various piano recitals and won/performed at a piano competition at Stony Brook a few years ago. I was also part of the orchestral pit at my school’s musical last year. I’m not sure where all of this fits into the app though, and whether all of these musical activities would even matter since asians are seen to be musically active (piano, violin, etc)…

I wouldn’t send your SAT unless the school requires all scores. Your 34 on the ACT is a great score. Also, get your subject tests up to 700 for Cornell, JHU, WashU, and Georgetown.

@creedbratton Thanks!! I’m definitely going to take the SAT subj tests again, but do you think I should take the Sat again? Also, since a lot of the schools I want to go to are reaches, do you know any other colleges that would be a good match for me?

Update: Recently found out my AP scores:
3- Chem, Physics 1
4- English Lang

I’m still planning on submitting them even though they aren’t the best

Don’t retake the SAT, it would be a waste of your time.

Cornell" Reach
NYU: Match. But their FA is super measly, even for in state IIRC
Stony Brook:safet
UCLA, Berkeley: low reach/high match
John Hopkins: low reach/high match
Boston University: match
Northeastern: low match
Washington U: Match
Georgetown: ???

I would add U of Alabama because you would qualify for full tuition scholarship(guaranteed, that is if you apply in time)and it’s pretty well rounded school. In fact, plenty of OOS students with high stats apply for this school for safety and scholarship.

Good luck.

Include the music if it’s a part of who you are, it sounds like a big time commitment and you’re clearly good. Cornell, Georgetown, UCs, and Wash U are low- mid reaches but you’re pretty competitive; others will be fine. Good luck!
