Hi all, I’m wondering how much of an impact being chosen as a Robertson Scholar semifinalist has on the possibility of acceptance. I’m academically qualified, extremely strong leadership positions (obviously), and a strong creative background. My interview went very well. I marked UNC as my preferred school for the scholarship, but if I don’t get the Robertson, how likely is it that I get into Duke?
If you want more specific info, check one of my application results replies.

I heard back in the first wave, on Wednesday. I’m super grateful as there’s no WAY I can afford UNC without it, and it was such a long-shot to be selected. I hope it goes well for you.
Congratulations on being selected! I still have my fingers crossed myself. From what I’ve heard, if you’ve been selected as a UNC Robertson semifinalist, your admission to UNC is pretty likely. As for Duke, that depends on whether your email states you’ve been selected as a ‘dual’ semifinalist or not.
I would guess that since you were selected as a Robertson semifinalist, you’re already a top achieving student leader and your admission to Duke is more likely than most. This is just my speculation though-hope it helps!
Thank you! Already got into UNC (which made me so happy haha). It didn’t say in my email if I’m being considered for Duke and UNC since I marked both on my application. Hope it’s a plus for overall Duke admissions though! @ElGuiri
How likely is it to move on from the semifinalist round to the finalist round? I’ve been searching the net but couldn’t find any stats. Had my interview today, and thought it went decent.
I’ve heard that there are 300 semifinalists or 150 semifinalists. Then, apparently there are about 100 finalists, but I find that hard to believe and that was speculation on a 2009 thread. If you don’t mind me asking how did your interview go? @UndercoverPlum
Im a semifinalist for the Robertson as well. I talked to a friend who won it last year, he said there were ~140 semifinalists and then ~70 finalists from there. Not sure what the real figures are though.
ok so no definite numbers but roughly half. my interview was decent, i think they liked me. Because of hindsight, i’m starting to thing it went worse and worse. it was probably pretty good, and im just overthinking it.
^Same! I just had mine and I keep overthinking everything I said. I really really really hope I make it to the finalist round, as I tend to do really well in person. They said they’d contact us in a couple weeks with the finalist results.
Yeah, mine was kind of strange. One of the interviewers was really grilling me the entire time. I had decent answers, but I don’t know how they are going to decide this. Oh well, whatever happens, happens.
@iam4uf1 yeahhh I got grilled too. Were the questions that they were asking you guys like about the things mentioned in your essays, but they would like refute some of your points to see how you’d respond?
yes! It got me a little flustered ngl. They were asking me to solve one of the country’s biggest problems and refuting my every suggestion. Eventually they accepted my answer but I don’t know if that’s because I had a good counterargument or because I stopped making sense lol @CTMorris1999
@lesjubilants yesss! I honestly can’t relate enough to that. Literally how my interview was. Did they laugh with each other during your interview while you were answering a question?
