Ethnicity: Egyptian/Arab...(I put African American on common app b/c there is no slot for "middle eastern" and it says choose the one you identify with/closest to you, and Egypt is in Africa)

Want to do pre-med and major in Biology and maybe minor in English or Arabic

Schools Applying to: (any suggestions?)...I really love Tufts (hard), BU, BC, NYU, and UChicago.

University of Hawaii
Creighton
University of Michigan
New York University
Boston University
University of Washington
Boston College
University of Chicago
Tufts
Cornell

UHI-Manoa: Safety
Creighton: Safety
BU: Match
BC: High match
UMI: Reach
NYU: Reach
Tufts: Reach
Cornell: Reach
U Chicago: Reach (pay attention to your essays)
UWA: Match

thanks @catria ! but how are NYU and UMichigan reaches? (according to the scatterplot graph, I fall within the low range)

bump…any others? please :)

UMich: http://obp.umich.edu/wp-content/uploads/pubdata/factsfigures/freshprof_umaa_fall13.pdf</a></p>

Look at 2013 category
Your UW GPA is below the 25th percentile
SAT Math is below the 25th percentile
SAT CR is only 10 points above the 25th percentile

You should add some more safeties and matches to your list because your list right now is reach heavy. URM only goes so far.

@tola2015‌ , Yes I understand, but also check out the scatter plot here -> <a href=“University of Michigan: Acceptance Rate, SAT/ACT Scores, GPA”>http://collegeapps.about.com/od/GPA-SAT-ACT-Graphs/ss/university-of-michigan-admission-gpa-sat-act.htm</a></p>

Anyways, do you recommend any good safety/match schools that are great in pre-med (and preferably offer good research opportunities for undergrads)?

Thanks!

Medical Schools often base their decision on GPA and MCAT and UChicago is known for deflated GPA. You should go to your state college and get a wonderful GPA and get a great score on your MCAT.

I don’t want to stay home, I would like to study away from home. Also I would like to get into the best university that I am capable of getting into (as long as it has a good pre-med program). As far as GPA, college is a fresh start for me and a time to work extremely hard on my GPA and MCAT scores as well as research and EC’s.

@Lacoste‌

@driftadriva only use score/data from the actual college’s website.

@Lacoste you shouldn’t decide not to go to a school just because it will be harder to get good grades.

Are you instate for UMich? Also, how much are your parents willing to pay yearly for any school? Have you run net price calculators for all the schools on your list? NYU doesn’t give much aid.

@tola2015‌ I know that is true but for Pre-meds grade mean a lot more then the average student because without a high GPA it would be difficult to get into a decent Medical Program.
@driftadriva‌ I understand your view, but can you afford the overwhelming tuition costs? Med school is really expensive.

Yes, but about.com’s college scatterplot graph is highly reputable and coincides with the college data displayed by the official college site. As for the tuition, I can afford the schools listed and all their costs. I just want to get into a really good school that also has a great pre-med program. @Lacoste‌
@tola2015‌ , no I live in Hawaii.

About.com uses cappex for its scatterplot data. Cappex is not that accurate (you can even type cappex into the college confidential search and most people would tell you the same thing). Cappex is based on student’s self-reported data not actual data from the school itself. Therefore just stick the the college’s class profile.

bump…any other opinions/chance me’s?? :)

UHI-Manoa: Safety/lock
Creighton: Safety
BU: Match
BC: High match

Just an fyi - middle eastern is not considered an URM. It falls under the category of white (persons having origins in any of the original peoples of Europe, the Middle East, or North Africa).

I agree with @‌MLM you are considered Caucasian.
