i received straight As freshman and sophomore year, junior year was A/Bs and a D. My dad passed in may of 2020 which made the following year extremely difficult for me. I definitely wasn’t doing my best. I have other extenuating circumstances I am including as well (2020/2021 was messy) i also know I am not the only one with this discrepancy in their transcript.

Based on all of Smith’s data I think you have more than a 50% chance. Based on humans making decisions, work on your essays and fine tune everything before you hit submit! Make sure to share “why Smith” with your teachers doing recommendations. Good luck!

You’ve put your best foot forward and that’s what you can do.

If it’s not Smith, many a college will want you - but I think you have decent odds.

The math ACT is tough but you are taking Calc so that’s good. Are you taking the ACT again? While I would normally say to submit a 32 (their 25/75 is 31-34), I’m unsure and you may consider test optional.

Or let me throw that question out to others - because the 25 in math concerns me.

The good news is - on their website and common data set, it appears that the GPA, recs, and essays are far more important that test score.

I wish you luck.

I’m sorry for your loss.

Is your HS GC addressing your drop in grades in their counselor letter? What do they say about sending your ACT score?

What is your unweighted GPA? You can easily calculate this yourself. Core courses only, on a 4 point scale.

The drop in grades and the D are more concerning than the ACT math. What course was the D in? How are you doing this semester?

Have you run Smith’s net price calculator and it looks affordable?
