Chance Me- Stanford, Ivies, UCs, USC, NYU, UMICH

Could I please message you about my common app essay. I think it is powerful and speaks volume of how I have turned my challenges into something beautiful.

I am so sorry to hear this. In my essay I showed that it is not a liability yet an asset I have fully harnessed. I know it is risky, but I think I could make it work. If a college does not want me because of who I am, then I do not want to attend a college by lying about who I am. Please message me if you would like to read my common app essay!

The sad part is we’ve made college today an arm’s race. OP. if you go to a perceived lesser college you will be ok. If you don’t go to college you can be ok. So if it’s Southern Illinois and not Stanford it’s ok. And no I’m not saying you can only get in SIU. You can get I’m great schools.

As for the essay topic everyone has told you it’s a no go. Read about essays. People have to come up with three, four, five ideas. Have you brainstormed ? If everyone is telling you no there is a reason. You either have to take everyone’s knowledge and move on. Or take your shot knowing others are saying this is a no no. But you asked a question yet don’t want to hear the answer because it’s not the one you hoped for.

No matter how you write this, it can only hurt your chances. It will not help. As many of us have said, colleges are businesses. They are risk averse. The mere mention, no matter how you phrase it, won’t work. I’ll take a look if you want to forward but….

Essays Dont have to be serious and needn’t relate to your major. In fact it’s likely better if it doesn’t.

Good luck

I understand. Could I please show you my very rough draft? Please give me an email or something in which I could forward it to you. Thanks so much for your honesty. It is really appreciated.

I think that this is a very good question.

Academically I was very well prepared. I had no trouble at all with any freshman or sophomore year classes.

I was not ready to work that hard without any letup for four years. In order to work that hard, you need to know why you are doing it. You need to want to do it.

By the time that I was in graduate school, I did understand why I wanted to do it, and I did want to do it.

Message it to me. Also don’t forget the admissions counselors are often counselors for the university. Not the major.
