Hi im Ryan S and I really want to apply the the Albert Nerken engineering school at Cooper Union.
I have a 96 high school avg. Nice math and sciences grades (definitely above 95% for each since freshman year, (senior now)). SAT scores 740 math, 740 writing, 540 critical reading (painful). SAT II 800 in Chemistry and 740 in Math 1. AP Chemistry 100% class avg(not weighted) and a 5 on the exam (I love chem). Currently taking AP Calculus BC and AP Physics B.

Enough about that...
Extracurriculars:
Extremely dedicated golfer (best sport ever invented). Placed 12th in NYC golf championships (at least I had fun).I love to play the guitar.
I am on the robotics and golf team. ( Head robot engineer and designated driver on the team. #2 on my high school golf team). I've done peer tutoring since freshman year in all math, chemistry and biology, spanish, us history, and SAT prep. Volunteered as a First Tee Golf Program Team Leader and in general at my local golf center. Was awarded a paying job there for being a nice guy I guess. Volunteered at the Tony Dapilito Rec Center in Harlem. Voluteered with an Intensive Case manager for the NYS Office of Mental Health
Apperentice Exterminator with my Father. Participated in Model Congress at school.

Those are all the extra curriculars that I can think of at the top of my head right now. I feel like I am in an okay position, not too bad not too assuring and I want to know what you guys think. I want to go to this school mainly because of the free tuition opportunity, the intense engineering program( I crave the challenge), its in the best city in the world, and my uncle is an alumni and said that he had a blast even though he was one of very few african american males that were there when he was.
I guess that's it, im working on the essay questionairre too (any tips), all my teachers friends, family, and acquaintances said I was a beautiful writing since elementary so I am using that too boost my spirits after I saw that heartbreaking cr score yesterday.
Thank you

bump
also any suggestions for the open house, the admissions officer told me that this will basically count as an interview, and I am not sure what to say or do

oh yea I do…
I know Cooper is my absolute dream school but my safety schools are NYU Poly, and Stevens Inst is kind of a safety but ill put it in that category.

My thing is that I want to do Chem Engineering but I also dont want to leave the Tristate area that much so schools in Pennsylvania, NY, Mass, Conn, NJ, im fine with.

For the rest of my list i have, Macaulay Honors at CUNY City College, Columbia University, MIT, Cornell, Carnegie Mellon( not sure yet), and Princeton. My college search so far shows that these are my best choices in the NorthEast

CUNY City College Macaulay: High match (although low CR might hold you back some, 740-740 in math and writing are in the ballpark of students actually enrolling at any Macaulay branch)
Columbia: Reach
MIT: Reach
Cornell: Reach
Princeton: Reach
CMU: Reach

yea I know, I studied really hard for the cr over the summer, but I guess it just isnt my thing. I ended up dropping by 10 my highest cr score is 550.

I think you have a decent chance man, especially because ur EC’s. Your SAT could have been a lot better i feel if you had atleast a 600+ CR score, but i think engineering schools would overlook that to some extent
