Chance me top schools, good scores, okay ec

What are my chances at MIT(possible EA), Harvard(possible SCEA), Princeton, Upenn, Cornell, Northeastern, Uchicago, NYU.
I am a rising senior.

I guess I would like to know how qualified I would be for these schools, and whether they would be reach/match (Yes, I know the first 3 will be reaches).

34 act, took once, will improve
800 Math 2, 800 Physics, 750 chem
I have an sat that I'm not submitting

10 AP classes by the end of high school 5 my senior year. I have 2 4's and 3 5's currently.
The most rigorous coursework, 7th in my class.

I don't want to go into too much detail for my own privacy

Currently AP scholar with distinction, no other real awards

Student council 4 yrs, leadership position senior year.
Volunteer student tutoring 3 yrs, VP senior year.
Sport since I was in second grade, club team and been on varsity four years, captain Junior and hopefully senior year. Maybe good enough for d3, but not seeking to do the sport in college.

Science bowl & science Olympiad 11th and 12th grade, Leadership in both senior year. A few regional awards for Science Olympiad.

Been Life guarding since I was 15 at multiple places.

My friend and I are doing a Siemens project, after being denied by every professor at every university in my area we are doing a project in my basement.(How much could this help my app?)

I realize I shouldn't put much hope into Harvard and MIT but I will probably either apply SCEA Harvard or EA MIT, I loved both those schools, so I figure I'd take the chance. I have a few safety schools I know I'll get into so don't tell me to get safeties. All help is appreciated!

bump…

what was ur sat?

a very unbalanced 2100

bump…

I’ll take anything, bump…

NYU and northeastern seem like attainable matches, as does cornell. I’d agree with you that MIT and Harvard are generally crapshots for anyone. Your ACT score and subject tests are great as well as your ECs. Build upon your siemens project and talk about your resillience to opposition/challenges you’ve faced and how you’ve trudged forward b/c what you’re doing is somthing you truly love. Other schools seem to be reaches (they are generally for anyone, but you seem to have a good chance!).

Best of luck!

Thanks a lot swimdude, cool to see we’re looking at some of the same schools.

You will be considered a solid candidate if you can pull off great essays and teacher recs. I wouldn’t say that having no awards won’t hurt, but if you can make up for it in other ways such as ECs you will probably be fine.

I recommend for you to use Cappex. I don’t know how accurate they are, but it’s given me a good idea of which colleges I should and should not apply to, and my chances.

Thanks, Cappex looks good I will give it a shot. Anybody else want to weigh in?

I need someone’s opinion. Should I apply scea Harvard? Is it worth it? Harvard&MIT are tied for my favorite schools

It depends on your major. MIT is ranked higher but I like the feel of Harvard. I think you have good chances at NYU and northeastern. Cornell would probably be a match. MIT and Harvard are reached for everyone, but don’t let that discourage you from applying! Chance me back? http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/1529081-chance-uri-unh-uconn-nyu-bu-cornell-brown-upenn.html

Thanks, I’ll chance you back. I’ll need to decide who I apply EA. Can anyone else weigh in, is it worth it?

bump…

Let me ask you one question: Why are MIT and Harvard your top two choices? What area of study are you interested in? The two schools do not have that much in common apart from being in Cambridge and being top ranked in their respective spheres of influence.

The student body at MIT is very different from the student body at Harvard. I would encourage you to research student life at both Harvard and MIT to see which is a better fit for you. It is all about the fit. I have spent a lot of time at MIT and I can tell you that it is not for everyone, regardless of how smart they are.
