From what i’ve learned (secondary schools in my area), guidance counselors are always going to give you the worst-case scenario stats. So I’d relax… your chances are probably what your friends say they are.

Thanks for all your feedback. It’s pretty reassuring to know I can consider such good schools to be low matches or safeties. So the idea is that I don’t need to apply to any other safeties, right?

Are you applying from in state? cuz they’re cutting back on in-state admits, so you may have a harder time. Also, UCB and UCLA are really unpredictable…so…I don’t think many people can consider them safeties. It really depends on EC’s. =

UCSD however, is definitely a safety for you, even without many EC’s, your SAT and GPA should be enough to get you in. Appply to UC davis or irvine just in case tho. I’ve heard a lot of cases where students got into a school no problem, but then they’re admit was taken back for some reason…so…apply to davis or irvine to be safe. It’s the same app anways…so…might as well.

Yes, I am from in-state. I don’t like UC Davis, and I probably wouldn’t go to Irvine, but if UCB and UCLA admissions are as unpredictable as you say they are, I might add University of Rochester or USC in the mix.
