Chance Me - UChicago

So, I’m a Junior right now and my UW is 3.91 and W is 4.54, and no class ranking

Freshman Year: Honors Algebra II Trig, Honors English I, Honors Bio, Honors Spanish II, AP Euro (5), Digital Video Production, and Graphic Design. A’s in all except math

Soph: Honors Precalc AB, Honors English II, Honors Chemistry, Honors Spanish III, AP Government (5), Graphic Printing. A’s in all except math again

Junior: Honors Discrete Finite, APUSH, AP Lang and Comp, Honors Spanish IV, AP Physics B, AP Psych - straight A’s, expecting 5’s on all tests except physics

Senior Year Schedule: AP Calc BC, AP Lit, AP Spanish Lang, AP Human Geo, AP Micro, AP Macro, AP Bio, Anthropology

90+ hours volunteering at hospital, teacher’s assistant for kindergarden class 70 hours, physics, bio, and spanish tutor 20 hours per month. Officers position in schools service club for 3 years, member of environmental club, astronomy club, and book club. Also in NHS and NSHS (running for officers position). AP Scholar (probably)

32 on the ACT (this is a bit low but I went in blind trying to see how I'd do with no prep) trying for a 34 next time

Another area of concern and please keep an open mind is I'm undocumented. My family came here legally and were literally steps away from the green card but our files were mixed up and we lost status. I'm from IL and have deferred action, an SS number, a drivers license, and grew up here, so please don't come harass me right now this isn't the point. My case is this August so we'll see how that turns out, but anyway my question was how open would you say I prestigious school like UChicago is to people like me?

Assuming the documentation thing doesn’t cause any problems, I think you’ve got a good chance. What are your SAT and ACT scores? Your GPA and rigor of schedule looks good. Your EC’s are good, but lack anything great. It would look really good if you could get an award for a foreign language or become a varsity athlete. Also, based on the whole documentation thing, I’m guessing you are a minority, which works in you favor.

UChicago: high match

thank you! I’m not taking the SAT because all the schools I’m applying to take the ACT, which I got a 32 on, but plan to improve. I know my EC’s are a bit weak but I’m planning on trying a few more things over the summer. Thanks again!!

Looks like you’re in! UChicago is verrrryyy selective; I just visited the campus and had an info talk. However, your WGPA is good, as well as your ACT. 34 Would be a fantastic boost. But, for the most part, you’re looking good!

If you can get to 34 ACT with your 3.91, you’re fine academically given your course load. Bulk up your EC’s and show your commitment to excellence in these areas and make sure your essays/recs are superb. Do all that and you’ve got a shot.
