Chance me: UCLA/UC-Berkeley, Duke, Brown, Dartmouth, Rice, etc.

UCLA/UCB, Duke, Brown, Dartmouth, USC, Cornell, Rice, Stanford, Northwestern, Johns Hopkins, WashU, Emory, UPenn, and any other suggestions! I am so indecisive and I don’t have a complete idea of the colleges out there

Intended major: Neuroscience, Global Health (for those schools that have it), or Public Health
Unweighted GPA (by end of junior year): 3.81
Weighted GPA (same): 4.05

Race/ethnicity: Indian (female)
Income bracket: high-ish
Geographic location: Junior from Midwest, very good public school
Hook: pretty much nothing…

SAT: 1520
ACT: 34
APs : Psych (5), Human geo (5), World History (4), Chem (4), Lang (5), Lit (4), US history (5)

ECs in no particular order:

  • 3 years MUN (leadership team this year)
  • 7 years violin (in the highest orchestra at my school)
  • 2 years badminton
  • Volunteered at a lab for 2 summers
  • Multicultural club (founder and leader)
  • Tutor through a free test prep tutoring service at my school
  • 2 years consistent volunteering at Kumon
  • 8 years Indian dancing (have won competitions and performed in multiple places), I am also an occasional Bollywood dancer (have organized performances)
  • Newspaper at my school (on Editorial board)
  • Worldquest competition team (also the leader of that club)
  • Attend Medtronic exploring post (leadership in that as well)
  • Run a youth group that promotes Mental health awareness in South Asian communities (organize multiple events yearly)

Awards:

  • Predicted National Merit Semi-finalist (at least) because I have gotten a couple points above last year’s cutoff
  • 250+ Volunteer hours (will have the Presidential community service award soon)
  • MUN awards at major national conferences
  • dance awards at local competitions

Also, my school doesn’t easily allow for students to take APs until senior year because our schedules are pretty set (so it’s a huge hassle)

You are a competitive applicant. Your stats and ECs are great. Write good essays and you could get accepted to any of these schools

Amazing ECs and great grades! With good essays, youre definately an outstanding applicant, even though these schools are reaches for everyone. I hope you do great! Please tell me your opinion here http://talk.qa.collegeconfidential.com/college-admissions/2071793-what-do-you-think-of-my-ecs-need-your-help.html#latest

I agree with everyone above – you definitely have a fantastic resume. However, so do most others applying to the very same colleges. In reality, you can’t really expect much because you never know the results until they come out. Also, the fact that you’re Asian hurts the process a bit. Nonetheless, I wish you the best!

Can you afford Cal/UCLA since you’re OOS? Also you will need to calculate your UC GPA.

Your weighted GPA does seem low compared to the unweighted. UCs take into account 10-11 grade GPA and only AP/DE/IB have the extra weighting for OOS students.
