CHANCE ME? UCLA, UCSD, NYU, .... (really good ec!)

Hey everyone. I'm a junior in high school so I can't give a complete portfolio as it's still in the making but I'll give an overview of what I've achieved and what I hope to achieve. I just want to get an idea of what schools I have a chance at :)

My school is considered "prestigious" but due to the fact I moved from a top 50 school in the U.S, I disagree

SAT: 2250-23xx (its been steady for a while and i'm ready to take it in oct! if i have a really bad day, it might be a 2200)
Reading: 700-750
Math: 750-800
Writing: 750-800

ACT: I took PLAN and got a 30/32... so estimating ~34

Grades aren't too good :/ So I'm not sure which schools I have a chance at:

Sophmore year:

1st sem:

Honors English- C+ (i slacked... :/)
Chemistry- A
AP World- B
Spanish- B+
Honors Math- B+
Physics- A

2nd sem:

Honors English - B+
Chemistry- A
Ap World- B
Spanish- A
Honors Math- B+
Physics - A

Junior Year (estimates, but it's accurate for now):

Spanish- A
H Precalc- A
AP Bio- A (i'm not too sure as of yet)
Ap Chem- B (think it's easy right now, but i'm expecting it to get more challenging)
History- A
English- A

ECs:

Varsity Track
Starting a non profit
Own several online businesses + websites (makes $5000 a month approx so far but going down since school started, trying to expand more and outsource to triple the income!)
Coming out with internet marketing products and webinars (in the process of making them now!)

I had a bigger list before but I'm blanking out so I put my main ones up

Schools in consideration:

Washington University in St. Louis (both parents went there)
University of Rochester
UCLA
UCSD
UC BERKELY
NYU
UPenn
Stanford
USC
Any IVY (yes, it's probably impossible)

I wasn't thinking about going into business at first but I'm willing to consider it now if that's what it takes to get into a better school

Oh and bad news... I'm asian :/ So the grades will hurt me more.

Can you guys also list the best colleges I can get into? Thanks!

its mad hard to chance you when u started ur junior year a week ago, and left out ur entire freshman year. please revise ur post so i can make an accurate chance. but i will say that ur junior year needs to be straight-A’s, if u want any chance at all.

chance me back! im on first page titled “NYU chances- im not the ordinary CCer”

As dumb as this sounds… i swear the revise button disappeared

Junior year actually started almost a month ago and already it’s full on, tests every week in every class (bio just had 2 tests on 4 chapters in a week!)

had tested based on 8 chapters of summer hw, etc. I’m pretty sure Junior year grades will be as predicted, minus AP Bio

Freshman was when I moved and went into a sort of depression state. I was hoping my businesses would make up for my grades

Freshman year:

H English- B+
H Math- A/B
Foods- A
H Global Studies - A
Health - A
Bio- A+/B+ (i fell behind after moving)

Stanford and ivies will be very unlikely. WashU as a double legacy may be worth an ED try with a 2250 plus and perfect junior year. NYU looks about right and figure out your UC GPA for those schools.

My UC gpa will be around a 4.2-4.3

But really…? I was thinking that a $5000 a month business (60000 a year) would make up for my grades  I’m going to start investing money for marketing and advertising too, so that’s bound to go up.

NYU-assuming you do well this year and fulfill your listed goals, you should have a nice chance
UPenn-mid reach
Stanford-high reach

Dude… you’re making $60,000 a year as a junior? I highly doubt that…

What’s your website(s)?

Hi,

I do a number of things. Ebay business, internet marketing, flipping websites, making blogs, seo work, webinars, etc. :)

Websites alone don’t make me 5k a month, it’s everything combined. TwitterAutomate brings in a nice income though :-)

You should be in at WashU (best friend got in with lower stats), also Rochester seems more than likely to accept you. USC seems to be back and forth with who they accept so I can’t really say for sure (cousin got rejected with a 2300 SAT and 3.9 UW, ok EC’s while my friend’s brother got in with a 2100 SAT and a 3.8 UW GPA and similar EC’s). I’d say UPenn is definitely in reach as long as you can keep up the good work on grades junior year. Good Luck!!

I’m aiming for WashU, probably because that’s the only private besides the ivies my parents will pay for

of course i could always pay for it myself but… haha

bumpbump

any other chances? recommendations?

amazing SAT and ECs, 5000 bucks a month? thats really impressive.
i guess your GPA is the only thing thats gonna hurt you a bit, or not.
but wait 4.2-4.3 UC GPA? thats pretty high~ how did you calculate it tho? cuz i thought straight As with 4 APs(also As) is about 4.3 (?) maybe im confused.
if 4.3
UCLA-in
UCSD-in
UC BERKELY-in
NYU-in
UPenn +Stanford- i’d say a reach?
maybe your ECs will get you in without any trouble.
with a 2300 SAT and your GPA you are def. eligible for all those schools.

good luck man.

4+5+5+4+4+4 / 6 = 4.3

or 4+5+5+5+4+4 / 6 = 4.5

AP bio, chem and honors precalc are weighted for UCs

I did forget to average it out with my sophmore year gpa, so It’ll only be around a 4.1 ish  It’ll be a huge upward trend though

but arent they only weight up to 8 semester AP/honors courses tho, which means extra APs will be counted as regulars…

I have exactly 8 semesters :)

grades are kind of low, but everything else is solid.

It looks like you have a good shot at everywhere except prob Upenn, Stanford, maybe WashU(I have no idea how much legacy matters), and the Ivies. Those are always uncertain. I’ve seen the best kids get **** on (rejected from all).

If your scores are as you predict…

WUSTL - match/in
Rochester - match/in
UCLA - high match
UCSD - match/in
UC BERKELEY - high match/low reach
NYU - match/in
UPenn - low-mid reach
Stanford - reach (it’s a reach for everyone!)
USC - high match

I’m not sure how schools will view your online business, but it is a remarkable accomplishment. I would say it would help you, but I’m not an expert.

Best of luck for your junior & senior year!

thanks! im pretty solid on the sat score, and ill need the luck for school

Washington State, USC - In
Rochester, NYU, UC’s, Penn - Match
Stanford, Ivies - Reach

washington university! :D

ahh. so i guess my business + sats doesn’t make up for my grades :/
