Chance me: UC's, CSU Pomona, UMich, USC Engineering/Comp Sci

General: Male, live in fairly wealthy suburban area in California, parents have very good education and income

GPA (9-11): 3.4 UW / 3.8 W

GPA (UC):
Unweighted GPA: 3.61
Weighted GPA: 4.13
Weighted and Capped GPA: 3.96

(strong, steady improvement throughout high school. Started with all B’s, ended Junior year with almost all A’s, not sure how much of a factor this is)

Class Rank: unknown, but probably around 12-15%

Courseload: Pretty much maxed out on AP’s and honors, except for ones like Art history, Music Theory and Lit.

ACT: 33 composite (30 English, 34 Math, 33 Reading, 35 Science)

SAT II: 800 Math II, 800 Physics

AP: 5 Calc BC, 5 Physics C (self studied), 4 Comp Sci (self studied), 3 APUSH, Euro

Extracurriculars: Hospital volunteering since 6 months ago, participated in and held officer positions in various small clubs. 2 years of Track & Field.

Misc Work/Experience: Webmaster for a small club for 1 year, webmaster for a big U.S. History project at the end of Junior year, one of the 7 webmasters for the school website right now (all of these were done with mostly or all code, not with templates/builders)

Rec letters: Probably very good

Essays: I’m not a stellar writer but I spent a lot of time on these essays and I feel good about them, and I had lots of edits/suggestions from friends.

If there’s anything that I should clarify please let me know. Thanks!!
I REALLY want to get into at least UCI comp sci. Unfortunately USC and UMich seem like reaches, but I’m still giving them a try. Let me know what you guys think

I think you stand a good chance for UC’s. Berkeley and LA could be a tough bet, but for the rest you could get in.

Pomona, obviously, is a reach, and UMich is a low reach/high match. USC places alot of emphasis on their supplements (all schools do, but I’ve heard USC really counts on it) so make sure you articulate your personality very well.

Good luck!

I think OP is asking about Cal Poly Pomona which would be safety.

A 3.4 GPA won’t cut it for USC Viterbi. That school is extremely competitive.

For Computer Science, you may apply to LSA at UMich instead of CoE which is a bit easier. Nevertheless, both are still reaches for you due to your GPA. uwGPA of 3.61 is way below the mid 50 for admission.
