I know my ec's suck, but I have more personal ec's. I've played guitar for 7+ years and I write books in my free time (unpublished) but I don't know if I should list those...Probably will mention the writing in my essay.

I will chance you for the California schools only.
GPA looks competitive, but need to work on that SAT score.
Intended major would help with the chances.

UCSD/UCLA/Scripps: Reach (Get SAT score above 2100+ and they would be matches)
Pepperdine/UCI: Match (They like High GPA over test scores)
UCSB: Low Reach/High Match (They like High test scores over GPA, but need to be really high around 2200+)
UCR: Safety

Sorry if my previous posts about the UCs have been misleading. I never stated that UCSB preferred a higher test score over GPA. Instead, I said that UCSB was nice to students with really high SAT scores. What I meant was that to be accepted by UCSB, you need either a good GPA or a good SAT score. UCSB is almost always less selective than both UCD and UCI.

For example, if a student with a capped UC GPA below 4.0 wants to go to UCSB, he/she can make up for his/her low GPA by having a 2200+ SAT score. (This does not work for UCD and UCI, which care a lot more about GPA than test scores. This is why UCD and UCI are more selective than UCSB.)

A student with a capped UC GPA of 4.2+ can easily be accepted by UCSB even with a low SAT score around 1750.

A student with a capped UC GPA around 4.05 and an SAT score around 1900 would also probably be accepted by UCSB.

You have a really high GPA and the UCs love that. UCSB is a match for you. I agree with Gumbymom for the other schools. Biology is not an easy major to be accepted into, so you should definitely try to raise your SAT score if you want to be accepted by the more selective schools in your list. Also, I think you should apply to UC Davis. It is good for biology majors.

Other than UCSD/UCLA/Scripps,

you shouldn’t have difficulty in getting into other schools unless you screw up your tests and essays

@Mangiafuoco and @Nicole3456: Looking at the accepted threads for UCSB and UCI over the last few years, there is a trend for each regarding GPA and SAT scores. I noticed if you have a High GPA like 4.2+ but lower SAT around 1600, UCI will more readily accept you versus a GPA of 3.7 and SAT of 2100. UCSB seems to be more of the reverse, where they will accept a GPA of 3.7-3.8 if that student has an SAT of 21000+… just something I noticed but then again, the CC posters stats show a bias towards the higher achieving students anyways.
