OK so here's my story: I'm a California CC student looking to transfer for Fall 2013 in the following schools: UCSB (pre-Biopsychology), UCSC (Neuroscience B.S.) , UCSD (psychology B.S), and UCD.
current gpa: 3.48
EC: none
IGETC:Done
TAG: Planning on tagging for UCSB
Planning on have a 3.5+gpa by upcoming fall and keeping it in that range.

i well have most of my major prereqs for my majors for all of them including the Bio sequences, chem sequences
but will not have any physics classes done because my school doesn't offer the ones i need and i will not have math done for any of them except UCSB.
Does not having my major prereqs not all done effect my chances of acceptances. If accepted would i be really behind because of physics.?

Thanks to anyone who took the time to look over this! its been on my mind the past month just need a little bit of closure.

OH and what are my chances of acceptance for those colleges!

Prereqs are probably the single most important thing for UC admission. You need to have them all done. If your school doesn’t have physics, try to get it over summer at another CC in the area. If you can’t, that’s okay, but not ideal. For math prereqs that are offered at your school, they need to be done or you have a very, very low chance of acceptance.

So do you think i should just aim for UCSB since i will have all my math and major prereqs done for their major except for Physics… I know i wont be able to take physics even if they offered it because i will be maxed out in units next year taking my bio and chem sequenced classes… Does anyone know of any cases where people dont complete all the classes listed on assist.org and get accepted

Some people do get accepted without the prereqs, it is just much more difficult. I think you will be okay for UCSB since physics isn’t offered at your CC. It doesn’t hurt to apply to the others but I wouldn’t expect much without the math prereqs done. How much are you missing?

for UCSB instead of taking Calc 1 and 2 they allow me to take math 60 to cover both so il have math finished for UCSB and all the psych, Bio, Chem, and stats classes. leaving only Physics 2A and 2B missing which is a year sequence.
for UCSC and the other UC’s it will be the same but they require the calc 1 and 2 and i will also be missing the physics courses.
I heard that transferring from a CC gives me a better chance at acceptances.
and i definitely do not want to spend an extra year just for physics if they can allow me to take it there.

Transferring from a CC does give a better chance of acceptance, but you still have to do the prereqs. Are you applying for fall 2013 admission?

Yea that was my plan

Is there any way you can squeeze in the Calc sequence next year?

I could try to enroll at another CC while i attending the one im currently at but i have read from other threads that some UC’s may deny your acceptance if your taking to many units before admission.

Since you are good for UCSB, if you want to go there, just get the TAG and go. If you want the other UCs, I think you will need the Calc. Can you drop an elective or something?

Im not taking any electives. I’m completely done with my general(IGETC) so i will just be completing all my major pre reqs next year.

I think i may just focus on UCSB since it seems like i will have the best chance there! Anyways its one of my top picks anyways. I’m going to try looking for ways i can finish my calc and physics if possible

thanks for the input!

UCSB is awesome, and you have a pretty good shot there. I would recommend you look into applying to Cal Poly SLO as well, it’s great for sciences. Also pick a safety or two, just in case.

Definitely! I read in a article the many of the CSU are halting admissions for transfer students for fall 2013 because all the cuts. I wonder if cal poly slo applies. I should start looking into Cal states as well.

I was wrong they froze enrollment for spring 2013

Bump! Can anyone else give me their input!?
Also if this changes anythings
I’m also Hispanic (mexican)
First generation college student
Divorce parents so very involved at work also and very responsible for 3 siblings.

Your ethnicity won’t help you get admitted. It might help you get scholarships, but that’s it. The fact that you are first generation and are working and are responsible for 3 siblings is though. Talk about that in your essays and EC section.

so what would you see my likelihood of acceptance for these schools would be?

It depends how many pre-reqs you will have missing, if you have them all done by Spring, I’d say you’re in at all. But it really depends on how many you have done for each school by Spring before transfer. I can’t really say becuase of that.
