ACT: 32 (could retake and score higher)

My weighted GPA was significantly reduced by my standard classes freshman year. I have not yet taken the SAT. I also do not currently hold any significant leadership roles within my community.

I would appreciate suggestions regarding whether or not I should increase the rigor of my courses. I could definitely do more extracurriculars, though.

Your choice of senior year classes is fine. Continue with your EC’s (especially volunteer hours). A leadership role would be a plus but it’s not a must have.

You should take the ACT and perhaps the SAT. A higher score may help with UF, but it also could open up doors at other colleges/universities.

Good Luck!

Thanks for the feedback. In your opinion, does it look likely I’ll get in based on my academics?

I read another post of yours where you discussed the averages of new UF students. It appears that while I hold an ACT score two points higher than the average, my GPA is the average. If that is the standard for all UF applicants and then UF just looks at EC’s after that to determine acceptance, I feel as if I will not be accepted.

It’s doesn’t work that way, UF will consider both Academic and non-academic factors in admissions. In other words, strong EC’s can help compensate for average GPAs/test scores, while Strong academics can help compensate for weaker EC’s.

Of course, it’s best to be strong in both!

UF’s holistic admissions is about 50% academics, and 50% non-academic factors.

Great academics, for sure. I would suggest taking the ACT again and the SAT – you have a good score but there’s no downside to taking it again and improving. The only hole appears to be leadership. Perhaps take a more active role in a school organization or club, or with a community organization.

On the whole, you look like you have a great chance for UF next year.
