So I am a HS junior in NJ with a 3.4 UW gpa LOW I KNOW. and a 4.1W GPA
1750 SAT (first time without studying). took it again in May idk score yet-because I had so much going on i didnt get to study again so Im planning on studying over the summer and retaking it in October. Aiming for a 2100+
In the IB program and taking AP tests as well..
A lot of extra curriculars
Trying to start up Model UN at my school
Lots of volunteer hours
Went to NSLC for international diplomacy last summer
Got into a research psychology program in a major hospital in Seattle (going for a month)

Why is there such a big difference between your UW GPA and your weighted GPA. Your school must grade inflate beyond imagination for that to occur…

Anyways, your on the lower end when being compared to admitted students at Umich. Bump up your UW GPA dramatically, and definitely aim for a much higher SAT score. Plus, it’s really hard to say how admissions will work from now as they’ve switched to the Common App.

well theres nothing much I can do about gpa…
and the huge difference between UW and W is because I am taking the hardest classes.
IB classes and AP tests

In state or OOS? (I’m assuming OOS since you took the SAT and not the ACT). I just responded to your NU posting. You have a better shot at Michigan than NU although Michigan was tougher this year than in the past. Going to the Common App increased their applications significantly. OOS is tougher than in state. Going early decision will help your chances.

It’s a reach. Even if you got over 2100 your GPA would still be on the very low side and 2100 is probably only slightly above average. I don’t know if there’s still enough time to do much about the GPA.

“I don’t know if there’s still enough time to do much about the GPA.”

well yes ive realized that… i even stated that several times.

i had a 3.3 GPA and im OOS
i would just suggest you apply ASAP, like as soon as the application is out, haha :p

for real? what year are you now?

vodka, do you attend a private high school? It is hard to tell without knowing how students from your school do when they apply to Michigan. Some highly competitive high schools will have a solid track record with Michigan for students with 3.0-3.3 unweighed GPAs. Then again, students at those schools will get into Ivy League schools with 3.2-3.5 GPAs and into HYP with 3.4-3.7 GPAs.

On the other hand, as many have pointed out, from most high schools, a 3.8+ unweighed GPA is the norm for successful applicants. As such, even with a 2100 on the SAT, the 3.4 GPA will most likely be too low.

Check your school’s Naviance and see how students with 3.4 GPAs and 2100 SAT scores do when they apply to Michigan. Also remember that Michigan is getting a lot more selective as a result of the Common Application.

The GPA makes Michigan a reach. SAT score doesn’t help.

although it may be a reach, it is not impossible. defintely dont lose hope on it. just get to a 3.5 gpa and above 2000 sat and you will still be able to compete for a spot. make sure your essay is amazing because i personally believe that was the difference maker for myself
