Going to be a slight reach... :/

Get your GPA up this year.

thanks for input (=) i have a few questions tho:

would applying early benefit at all?
if im the only applicant from my school, does that help?

and my rank is in the top 15-20% out of a class of 700 kids....

if you want to go to UM, seriously find out the date when you can start applying (which will probably be in august of 07) and start on the application as soon as you can. i went to a UM meeting in the beginning of august and just put off my app until october. i think procrastinating on my application is probably my biggest regret. not only is applying early less competitive, you won't have as long to wait for your decision. DO NOT PROCRASTINATE ON THIS!!

1) Get your Umich GPA up, because Umich doesn't care about your senior gpa unless you get deferred.

2) Contact teachers at the end of this schoolyear and let them know to write reccomendation letters for you. Count on only half of the teachers you ask actually doing it. Just make sure that you have at least one letter by the end of the year that you can use for your college application.

3) August 1st, 2007: Logon to the umich website, and begin working on your application. Finish the essays and all of the other stuff as soon as possible. Essays don't make much of a difference in admissions, so don't worry about them and just make sure that they are error-free. When in doubt, take a decidely liberal stance on an issue (look at the Democratic party's platform on their website for hints), and then write your essay along those lines. You should also send in your ACT/SAT scores at this time.

4) Have your application done before school starts, and on the first day of school, give your counselor the needed sheets from the application. DO NOT send the counselor stuff/transcript via the internet. Umich messed it up this year, and there is reason to assume that it might happen again. Just do everything by paper except for your actual application. Get your counselor working on sending her reccomendation/transcripts/forms in ASAP.

5) Contact aforementioned teacher and have him send the letter to Umich, via postal mail. I cannot stress enough the fact that if he sends it electronically, there is a strong chance that Umich will **** it all up and then you will be screwed in the end.

Have everything done as I have outlined above, and there is reason to assume that you have a good chance at being admitted. You will also get a deferal earlier and thus earlier admission if they decide to admit you later on.

Ill be applying with you next year!

GOod luck to us both

whats up man

what are your credentials?

our sats are pretty much identical... but ive got a 3.8 umich gpa

yeah that owns my umich gpa of a 3.4...
**** you Algebra 2...

I would do two things.

1) Assuming you can get a 2100+ on the SAT, apply REALLY early. Definitely apply in August.

2) Be sure to do as well as you can your Senior year. There is a good chance you will be deferred, so Michigan will probably end up looking at the first half of your senior year in order to make its decision.

are acceptance rates higher for those who get deferred than those who rd?

The exact numbers aren't availlable, so we can only speculate. It was estimated that roughly 50% of deferred applicants got in. However, these last couple of years have seen a surge in the applicant pool (from 21,000 in 2003 to probably 27,000 this year), so one simply doesn't know what is happening at this moment.
