I applied to the College of Science and Engineering with the College of Biological Sciences as a back up within the University of Minnesota Twin Cities in early October. I have a 33 ACT and a 3.7 unweighted GPA. I took many advanced courses throughout high school, and my senior year I am taking 26 credits of dual-credit courses through a local community college. One aspect that worries me is I have only taken one year of foreign language, and never took a physics course, but I meet all of the other required coursework. I am graduating from a very small rural high school with 20 students in my graduating class, and I have a brother who attends UMN TC. I also participated in many extra-curricular activities throughout high school. What are my chances of acceptance?
They are pretty clear on their requirements. You are missing two. The fact that you are taking dual enrolment classes tells me that you had the ability to take the requirements but didn’t due to your own choice. By any chance, was the language class a year 2 class (took a language in 8th grade)?
I was planning on going to a different school and set my schedule up based on that…languages were only offered at my highschool junior and senior year and when I went full time PSEO I did not have the option to take one at my college.
Then just try to take Physics Subject test to show your capability
Lack of physics for CSE will be problematic but you never know how they are going to judge this situation. OP, can you take physics later this year as part of PSEO? Just a guess but it’s likely the lack of physics and not the lack of the 2nd year of FL that would hold up your application.
