I am currently the concertmaster in my school orchestra and have attained high chairs in regional and state orchestras.

I wrote articles for my school newspaper in ninth grade and was the editor-in-chief during my sophomore year.

My composite score for the ACT is a 33; my superscore is a 34.

Finally, I have attained accolades for superior performance in several of my classes and was presented with the Wellesley Book Award last year.

There is no such thing as an ACT superscore. Also, a 4.2 weighted with that many APs sounds like your unweighted GPA would be a bit low (just speculation, since you didn’t specify), and the 3s definitely don’t help your case. I’d say it’s a reach, though it’s certainly not impossible, especially if you write a good essay. Your biggest strengths are your test scores, schedule rigor, and maybe your ECs. Your concertmaster EC sounds very good to me and definitely shows devotion to a single subject, but, well, you’re probably gonna be compared to lots of other people with amazing ECs like charity trips to Africa or whatever, so I don’t know whether it will stand out in the UChicago applicant pool.

@Kudryavka- Check your facts; ACT superscore does exist. Don’t say something like that unless you’re 100 percent sure of it.

The above poster is completely wrong about the ACT superscore. It DOES exist for UChicago; most schools don’t superscore it, but UChicago does. Clearly they need to check their facts before saying something that’s completely wrong. Anyway, you’re qualified, but your essays are really important! UChicago has very unique essay questions for a reason; write them well.

Good luck!
