I am currently a junior in HS and U of M is my dream college. I grew up going to U of M campus for football games and fell in love with the school.
I had a rough freshman year due to the passing of 3 very close relatives and my mom’s diagnosis with cancer in a span of just over 6 months. I ended my Freshman year with around a 3.4 GPA . Since then I have gotten my GPA up to around a 3.8 (around 3.6 UW I believe). I know my GPA is low By the end of HS I will have 9 AP classes completed. The first time I took the ACT I got a 27 composite score, which I know I can do better and I will likely get around a 30 when I am done taking it.
As far as extracurriculars go I have played football and baseball all through High School. I will be a captain on the football team next year. I have been a member of Student Council for all of High School and will likely be President next year (counts as class president as well). I am considering running for a student rep position on our school board. I am a member of NHS and I will try to run for a leadership role in that too (VP or something). I am on a Youth Advisory Committee that oversees grants and distributes them into our community. I am a member of other local groups to our school (anti-bullying group called BeNice and Students Against Destructive Decisions). I will be getting a part-time job soon. I am an active member at my youth group and have gone on 6 mission trips in my life. I have volunteered over 200 hours for the Audio/Visual Tech Team at my church.
For my essays, I am pretty confident in my writing ability for the essays, I can write about overcoming my almost depressed state following the death of 3 relatives and my mom’s cancer diagnosis in 6 months.
I am also family friends with an alumni and current employee in a dept. at U of M that I could probably get to write a recommendation.
Please leave me some feedback, because I want to know what to expect this fall when I apply.
Thanks
