Hello. I’m currently a senior working on my college essays, and I’d like to know if someone could give me some insight on applying to Ann Arbor, or any reach school. I say reach because I’m ranked #30 in my class (4.03 weighted, 3.94 unweighted), I have a 28 ACT, and I’m not confident in my writing. Including senior year, I have 5 APs and the rest are honors or electives. I come from a minority, president of the chess club, and I founded the club too. I was out of state in 9th grade (in Florida), but I don’t know if that’ll give me an edge. I volunteered at a pharmacy for a long time and played soccer for a year. Is there any hope?
Raise ACT to 32
Which major/program are you applying for? I will be applying this fall too so I’m familiar with the ranges of scores and acceptances and such.
I’m applying for the LSA program although I did consider engineering. @BreBre235
I don’t have time to study for the ACT. I went up four points (24 to 28) after studying a bit during the summer. Now I’m taking 3 AP’s and working 6 days a week. @cuteprincegeorge
I’d say you are probably a little under average in grades. But only slightly. Michigan is a very hard school to get in to. If you wow them with your essays and a good list of extracurriculars you should have a pretty good chance!
I must admit that I am under average in standardized tests, but my GPA isn’t too bad for Ann Arbor.
Apply early action. State in your essay that Michigan is your first choice.
Thanks for the advice! Would anyone like to read my essays when I’m done? Perhaps give me some advice?
To me, I don’t know anything anymore. I had a really low GPA (3.48 UW) but a good ACT which was 32. I got into Boston U and that’s all I can say.
A 32 is great. If I were to get that, I’d be set. The thing is the next ACT wont have scores before EA deadlines, and even if they did, I probably won’t get 30+; I haven’t studied since the summer,
