Chance me: USC UCLA UCSD Northeastern Georgia Tech Duke

Hello,

I appreciate everyone’s time in giving a rough estimate of my chances.

My #1 is USC but I’ll be happy anywhere. I have a couple safety schools and I’ve been accepted into 1 already.

Main Essay: It’s about how I lost my dad, but not the cheesy type of essay. It’s about how he used to tell me something he learned everyday before bed and it gave me a thirst for knowledge. It’s now why I have a drive to learn new things and why I’m always interested in new things that are discovered etc.

Thank you guys!

UC GPA’s? Unweighted, Capped weighted and Fully Weighted.

Intended major?

Unweighted GPA: 3.87
Weighted GPA: 4.19
Weighted and Capped GPA: 4.05

My intended major is biomedical engineering.

Thanks for your help!

UCLA and USC should always be considered Reaches but definitely possible. UCSD would be a Match to Slight Reach since BME is a capped major. As long as you are happy attending one of your safety schools, then the rest are “icing on the cake”. Best of luck.

2018 Freshman admit rates for UC GPA of 3.80-4.19 capped weighted and not major specific:
UCLA: 9%
UCSD: 34%

2019 UC capped weighted GPA averages along with 25th-75th percentile range:
UCLA: 4.25 (4.18-4.32)
UCSD: 4.16 (4.03-4.28)

2019 Data:
25th - 75th percentiles for SAT totals:
UCLA: 1330-1550
UCSD: 1300-1520

For GT your gpa and test scores put you in the ballpark for consideration. I am assuming you are OOS? Admission will greatly hinge on your course rigor. What APs did you take? What math and science level have you achieved? Did you take the most rigors classes available?

Yes I am OOS. I have taken World (3) Bio (4) Calc (5) AP lit (4) AP phys 1 (3). Currently taking Phys C, Gov, and Stats. These are mostly the most rigorous courses except for AP US history which I didn’t take.

Hi! I’m so sorry about your dad.
The only college I can really give you my opinion on is Georgia Tech- both parents attended, grandparents, uncles, multiple cousins + friends currently attending. I live in Atlanta and have toured multiple times.

Your scores, GPA, and extracurriculars are around average/high average for Tech. However, the problem is that EVERYONE wants to study engineering at Tech. To be competitive, I suggest either taking additional AP math/science classes (if possible), taking additional SAT subject tests in math/science, improving your SAT score, or applying under a less saturated major and then switching after attendance.

From what I know about the others:
UCSD seems like a good fit based on stats/ECs but I have no knowledge of their engineering programs.
USC, UCLA, and Northeastern are all still reaches due to their low acceptance rates but I think you have an average shot at all three.
Duke seems like a little below average shot because their acceptance rate is so low and their STEM programs are extra difficult, but it is still possible! Good luck!!!
