I am a senior at a private high school in VA.
I have pretty good ECs, a good essay, and a 35 ACT. My GPA weighted (out of 4.3 scale on a 6 point grading scale, where you get .6 bump up for honors classes and 1.0 bump up for AP classes) is a 4.0 (unweighted is about a 3.4 i believe)
I have taken 11 APs throughout highschool and also have good leadership positions.
I’m looking for a school that has a good academic reputation and business school, but I would also prefer it to have a good football or basketball team and for life there to be fun and not just a pressure cooker. For the size, I don’t want a school over 30k, and would prefer the school to be about 8-20k students.
I need you guys to chance me for:
UVA
Miami
UNC Chapel Hill
U of Georgia
Villanova
and U of Richmond
My ACT is much stronger than my GPA and I feel this is holding me back from getting more scholarships or getting into certain schools. Although, my GPA junior year was a 4.55, my freshman year was lower at a 3.5 so I have upward trajectory but still. If you guys have any suggestions for other schools or any tips in general please let me know!
@classof18student I think Villanova and univ of Miami are highly likely acceptances. Of course, nothing is 100% definite but you seem to meet all the academic requirements. I am not familiar with the other schools well enough to comment on your chances. You can google the common data set for each school and that should give you more info.
Are you from NOVa? That could make UVA chances a bit harder. Vice versa for southern VA schools. Obviously your GPA is a little soft for having such a great ACT. Hopefully your ECs are as strong as you say to make up for that some.
No, not from Northern Virginia. And yes my ECs and essay are strong, the big downside to my application is my GPA yet that is still on an upwards trend
You’re above the 75th percentile in the ACT for all those schools. I obviously am not qualified to give you chances but as long as you have safeties you should be fine with that list, esp the in state schools. Make sure cost isn’t an issue for the OOS ones.
cost isnt an issue as long as its 45k or under/year. It’s not the ACT im worried about its definitely my GPA so we’ll see
UPDATE:
I heard back from one of my safeties (Alabama) and got in with full tuition off, but got deferred at UGA unfortunately which kind of surprised me
