@bogeyorpar Yes and they realize how much it will cost. They are very supportive but they don’t realize how crucial the subject tests are and will not let me take them
@daththiccboi That’s a little counter-intuitive. I would assume most CC parents will PUSH their kids to take 2, 3, 4 subject tests. Even if they don’t push, when their kids wants to take extra tests, they’ll be happy and supportive. If your parents don’t care about $70,000 a year, why would they care ~$60 for a subject test or a $50 Uber/Taxi ride?
Ya I thought it was weird also. But if it explains it more it is a time problem not a money problem. They want me to focus on other things and not waste time studying and taking tests.
Nobody knows, probably the decision has been made already.
Wharton is tough but you have a very competitive profile. If your essays were good than I think you could get in
You look like a great candidate, just so competitive. Best of luck!
Just curious, what’s the legal structure of your tutoring company? Do you pay people salary?
@dreambig22 501© set up where I do most of the tutoring but I have others I have met who also do tutoring. All of it is free and none of us take a salary
You’re definitely qualified, but unfortunately it takes more than that. You need a hook. Good Luck. Remember you can be successful no matter where you go to college. You make the school, not the other way around.
@oscar63 Ok cool thanks. I am honestly still banking on a rejection, but I was just curious if others thought I had a chance at all
Oh so it’s a nonprofit. Good for you!
As for chances, I think you have a good shot. I think the only thing working against you is the fact that Wharton wants strong math students. No SAT II in math, 33 math, and taking Calc AB instead of BC might hurt your chances.
@dreambig22 Ok thank you for the help. Ya it is volunteering as I didn’t want to just do all college prep stuff I actually wanted to try to help out my area as cliche as it may sound, that why I have around 500 community service hours. Also the math is what is worrying me as well. I took AP Physics C (The calc based one) in an attempt to show them I am good at math but who knows. Also I am taking the subject tests this Saturday for my other schools but unfortunately it was too late for penn as I didn’t know of their existence until just recently. Oh well what am I going to do, thanks for the help
@preppedparent Ya, I wish I had a hook, as much as I am appreciative for my life now I wish I had some sort of hook to set me apart. I tried to create my own “hook” so to speak by helping my community out with 500 community service hours and getting that great letter of rec, but I know you can’t create a hook and there is only so much you can do. Thanks for the help.
We’re pulling for you. Let us know how it turns out. You need a little luck, but it can happen. Good Luck!
Also to everyone who already changed me I have one final question if it is ok. A sudden wave of dread came over me last night as I realised I might look like I am awful at math with a subpar ACT and no subject tests. Will I still have any chance. Espicilaly with the no subject test part, does my other stuff make up for it at all to give me any chance at all
You had already done your best for getting in Wharton, which is a reach school for most if not all kids without the substantial hook(s) no matter how they are great. If I have to point out the weakness for Wharton in your case, it is Math… However, the possibility is still there and you will know the outcome in coming days. Do not push yourself too harsh but well prepar for RD. I believe you will end up a top college either Wharton or somewhere else. GL

Letters of Rec
Teacher: Both good, didn’t read. One about me from bio, other from my physics teacher about how physics and finance correlate
Counselor: Form/10 there are too many kids so the counselor uses a form, but she gave me the highest marks possible on the form
Supplemental Letter of Rec: 10/10 made my parents cry, 600 words from the mom of a kid with disabilities I tutor where the mom happens to be the VP of a local finance company. This letter was so good it raised my hopes for being admitted so much.
You are so utterly qualified and well rounded, it is honestly their loss if they don’t let you in because of subject tests. It disgusts me that they would turn away someone like you over one minuscule thing like that.
I know someone personally who was not underprivileged and applied ED with no subject test scores (not a legacy) and got in. I didn’t submit them either so I’m hoping it is fine.
@Igotmyionyou Ok cool thank you, anecdotally speaking I have noticed way fewer people with subject tests this year so I wonder how that will effect the situation, also do you think my math experience looks ok for Wharton with only a 33 Math on the ACT and only Calc AB and Physics C
