All are concrete matches except for the Ivy’s. Best of luck, and thanks for chancing me!

What is your rank?

You’d better be at the top 10% (from your stats, it seems to be).

Start being friendly to your college counselor at your high school, and try to communicate that you’re a strong potential candidate to the Ivies. There is a chance that your counselor will recommend you to the Ivies if you’re one of the best students.

Your ECs are good only if you describe them well. Remember that the people at admissions office won’t see what you did in real life but will only see what’s on the paper. Write your ECs in a descriptive, detailed and appealing way. It doesn’t hurt to make it sound a bit more than it actually is on paper. Currently they seem generic.

Cambridge/Oxford’s interview is vitally important. Be sure to understand the ethics of whatever you’re applying for (e.g. ethics of medicine), form your own opinion about them, read a vast amount of resources regarding that knowledge, and most importantly be truly passionate about that subject. They don’t care about ECs or volunteering or well-roundedness or awards as much as U.S. universities do. If you don’t know what subject you want to major in, it’s best not to even apply to Oxbridge. Also remember to take the tests asap, and keep in mind of the Oct. 15 deadline (very soon).

Good luck.

And if you are not sure about what subject you want to major in (or, as the Brits say, read), you may scratch King’s College, Edimburgh or Manchester off your list because the major choice is binding at these places. That would mean that you should find new safeties then.

The only advice i have to offer regards UK schools. You will be desirable because you will be giving them a ton of money. They are definitely interested in your AP scores more than the fact that you took AP’s. they are definitely interested in your SAT’s and not really your ACT, which I would probably leave out of your application given your score on it. Unless you apply to St. Andrews, they wont know about it. And, as my British relatives have told me, they are not so concerned with your EC’s unless they are relevant to what you are “reading”. If you are thinking of Oxbridge, you had better prepare yourself very well. it is a notoriously difficult interview and i believe you will be asked to write an essay on the spot about something very difficult within your chosen subject. Have you thought of Durham? very well regarded university, ranked 5 in UK, great town. highly recommend studying overseas, it changed my life for,the better. One thing to consider though, will your degree hold as much water when you return to the US?

Right now your only safety schools are abroad, which is a very risky bet. You should apply to your state’s flagship’s honors program, and/or (if your flagship isn’t that great) to UVA if you need financial aid, or UCB/UCLA/UCSD if you don’t.
Any university/LAC ranked 30-35+ would be a safety for you so you should add a couple to your list, depending on financial need - if you need financial aid, avoid public OOS universities, and if you don’t, knock yourself out because all need-aware schools will want you.
A “match” would be a highly selective college with 30+% admission rate. (Below that, everything is a reach regardless of stats).
You have all kinds of dream colleges and odds are you’ll get into a couple of those, but make sure to have matches/safeties anyway. So, your next task should be to find schools you like and can afford in the match and safety categories.
Then, refine your “dream” list to emphasize “fit”.

Thanks to all of you guys for the feedback and I will certainly take what you said to heart.

Excellent stats. And the ACT isn’t low at all, given your GPA and SATs. Just make sure your EC’S aren’t “cookie cutter” and you actually show passion/dedication. And not to bring race into it, it really does make me feel good to know we have more African Americans out there who care about their education and shoot as far as you do. Let’s break some of the stereotypes associated with minorities! Way to go.

I think any of the schools you listed would be interested in you, you have great stats. Make sure you write an amazing essay and point out your good values and the things your passionate about. Start making some connections though, they could definitely benefit you in applying for colleges.

All of the schools in this country (not sure about the others) are reaches, solely because they get so many qualified applicants and it’s really luck of the draw at that level. Taking that into account though, you should definitely get into a few of them. Again, though, I couldn’t tell you which ones because they’re all equally tough to get into.

@Ruprex: thinking that because you apply to a lot of highly selective schools, you’re bound to get into one of them, is alas a common mistake among students. They end up stuck in March when that strategy doesn’t pan out. OP needs a safety school in the US, ie a school they’re 100% sure they can get into, like, and can afford.

You are very very strong in terms of both academics and ecs

no point in chancing…

Grain of salt of course. Your WGPA and SAT scores are high too, so they will give you some good leverage, but good essays are essential too. You also have pretty good ECs. I would recommend maybe shortening your list. Focusing on just a few schools will make your applications better since you’ll be spending more time per application rather than less.

Every school on your list is within your reach with excellent essays, fantastic recs, and a solid standardized test score (like yours). Of course, all Ivies are reaches for everyone. Your URM status might give your app an extra push to the accepted pile too! NYU, UCLA, and Carnegie Mellon are pretty high matches. And all the others are low to reach schools.

I see (and it’s only an opinion):

Amherst – Low Reach
Williams – High Match
Brown – Reach (but you have a good shot)
Cornell – High Match
Dartmouth – High Match
Georgetown – High Match
Notre Dame – Low Reach (unless you are Catholic – then Match)
NYU - Match
Northwestern - Match
UCLA - Match
Duke – Low Reach
Pomona – High Match
Vanderbilt – High Match
Carnegie Mellon - Match
Harvard – High Reach (for everyone)

International Schools – Have no clue

That being said, I think your application will be seriously considered by every school you list. None of them can be considered safeties, but you are obviously a great student.

Chance me back?

http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/1614998-chance-a-girl-please.html

Thank you all for you feedback!

Thank you for chancing me, and I will try to do my best for you (I don’t know much about international, and I haven’t heard of a few schools you have listed).
Your stats are wonderful, and your ECs are also great! Does your school have a history of sending students to top schools? You are well qualified to apply to any of these schools. I would say that with nice essays Northwestern, Vanderbilt, UCLA, and NYU are matches for you, as well as others I am not familiar with (Pomona, Carnegie Mellon, Amherst, etc.). You definitely have a good shot at the Ivies and Duke, but I would put them as somewhat reaches due to acceptances rates (you probably know all about that whole deal). Good luck with applications, I am sure you will succeed!

Thank you for chancing me so much, I always keep my promises:

AA will help you so much you dont know. You can get into any college you want (amazing Ecs and stats) but i’ll give you my full list

Amherst – High Match
Williams – Match
Brown – Reach
Cornell – High Match/Low Reach
Dartmouth – High Match/Low Reach
Georgetown – Match
Notre Dame – Match
NYU - Low Match
Northwestern - High Match
UCLA - Low match
Duke – Reach
Pomona – Sorry IDK probably low match
Vanderbilt – High Match
Carnegie Mellon - Match
Harvard – High Reach (but you have as good as a shot as anyone else who didnt cure cancer)

Thanks!

Universities with acceptance rates below 25% - good chance. Apart from that, you have very good chances. I do not think Carnegie Mellon university is a match by the way - even though you have very good chances. I would say “High match” at best.
