Chance Me...you Know You Can't Resist!!!

Hi, everyone,

I'm currently a junior at a somewhat-competitive, respected Catholic high school in NY that sends many a top alum to good/great schools each year.

I have a 98.6/100 weighted avg. (97 UW) with AP Euro soph year, AP US and Eng Language this year, and AP Calc AB, US Gov, and Literature to be taken next year, with all other classes being honors (essentially the most rigorous curriculum available to me).

I took the SAT in March and scored a 2210. My math was a little bit lower than I would've liked it to have been (690), so I will take the test again in June. So, my ultimate super-score will probably be something like 2250 (I hope). I MIGHT be a National Merit Commended Scholar (203).

As far as ECs go, I am, and have been for two years, the editor of a venerable student newspaper, hold leadership positions in student govt. and a unique-to-school leadership council, do peer counseling, am in NHS, Latin HS, and Spanish HS, and have been on varsity tennis for what will be 3 yrs. I played football, hockey, and lacrosse freshman year and was captain of two teams and received a league-wide scholar-athlete award for hockey. I had a job for a while and will be doing significant community service senior year.

I have great relationships with many teachers, so my recs will indubitably be excellent (or atleast good).

In addition to Notre Dame, i'm looking at Northwestern, UChicago, Cornell, William and Mary, George Washington U, Colgate, U of Richmond, Boston College, and Binghamton.

Any insights or advice would be VERY much appreciated.

If you read the decisions threads, you will see postings from students with stats similar to yours who were admitted, waitlisted, and rejected this past week. The best insights you can get will probably come from your school college counselors, who should know how well you stack up against other graduates from your school who were admitted to Notre Dame. Otherwise, as you will readily learn from reading the various decision threads, it's a crapshoot.

I would agree that you are probably a coin flip at ND, NU, Chicago, Cornell and William and Mary. Lots of qualified students are not admitted to these schools. Probably comes down to other things such as legacy, URM, demographics, quality of essays, etc.

You are probably safe at GW, Colgate, Richmond, BC and Binghamton.
