Chance me?....

I know you're all tired about all these topics. Sorry. ^^;
Chance me for Deerfield, Choate, Andover, Exeter, and SPS? Mostly Deerfield and Choate, though.
I skipped 6th grade. Currently in 8th grade, applying for 9th. May be willing to repeat 8th grade.
Grades:
English- A+
History- A+
French I- A+
Geometry (10th grade course)- A
Health- A+
Earth Science- A-
(I got a B- on my French trimester exam, does that hurt my chances?)

ECs:
-Crew for 2 years (I'm very big on this sport, haha...)
-Tennis for 3-ish years
-Piano for 6+ years (a few awards)
-Violin for 3 years
-Currently learning how to play basketball
-I did figure skating for a couple of years, but I stopped in 4th grade. Trying to get back into it.
-16+ hours of unrequired community service last year(does this count?)
-I speak fluent Chinese and know basic Latin (conjugations and declensions and etc.)

Essays:
I don't really have many good essays. The one I'm submitting received a B+, but it's just about the only graded one I can find. =/ (I think I did okay on the applicant essays though) This is what I'm most worried about.

SSATs:
I took them last month, received 87%. I took them again this month, and I think I did better.

I'm scheduled for interviews in January.

Any help is appreciated. ^^

Grades wise, you are solid. The admissions people are not put off by a bad exam mark, so don’t worry about that.

From inference, I am guessing that you are an Asian male… I could be wrong. I know at Choate, crew is pretty big (someone got into Yale with a crew scholarship this year). You seem all-rounded and the only hole I can see is in the graded essay. I know for mine, I submitted an A- essay, but I thought it showcased myself well in the essay (it was a personal essay).

As long as you have some kind of personality for the interview, I am sure you’ll make it. I am positive. Good luck!

Oh, and if you get into both DA and Choate, pick Choate. For Real.

I’m actually an Asian female. :stuck_out_tongue:
Thanks for the analysis. I feel a little bit more reassured. I’m putting 103% into my application essays, so hopefully it’ll cancel out the B+
I’m kinda nervous about the interview, I’m naturally shy, and I tend to speak in a tone that I think is normal but is actually very quiet. I’m working on it though~
Right now I’m leaning towards Choate, but I still have yet to go on the tours.
Thanks again ^^

ehhhh… I dont know what to say solid grades solid sports could do more ec’s and maybe notch up ur ssat grade a little but one thing is that BS’s dont really judge whether you do math as an 8th grader on a 8th grade level or a senior in college level mathematics is mathematics and you may not be given a better chance than others because you’re doing geometry at a 10th grade level. I am saying this because there are hundreds of thousands of asians that apply to bs every year and they all have piano for 9 years math at an 11th grade level swimming/tennis and straight A’s if you have a hoOk that could give you an edge that would be great. But who knows I may be wrong about what I said about your taking math at a 10th grade level. But good resume though. CHANCE ME only the most recent three the rest are irrelevant im applying for ninth grade too

You will have a very strong chance… but i would suggest doing more community service

Yankeefan,
How much community service do you suggest ivyleague do in the next 3 weeks?!

ivyleague897- The problem with my school is that we don’t have any clubs really to join. Last year I joined International Club, and all we did was eat food. I see what you mean about all the Asians applying, but my friend guessed that there weren’t many Asians in Deerfield, based on the materials they sent me. I know at least Andover has many Asians applying, but I’m sure about the other schools. I’ll chance you on your thread I suppose?
yankeefan1234- I’m not sure what I can do about community service this late in the application process, but I’ll certainly keep that in mind. Thanks for the post. ^^

Grade-wise = 很好
EC’s = How come every single Asian I know either plays piano or violin? Overall= 很好
Essays= I don’t get this part…with the grades. Isn’t the essay select one of the following and write with 150 or 500 words or fewer??? Essays= 不很好 jk.
SSAT= Good enough

Overall= 很好

Half-chinese pride XD.

romean- 谢谢!
Haha, it’s a bother to type in Chinese letters. How do people do it?..
I actually know an Asian who only plays cello. But I think that doesn’t really count. x3
You’re supposed to submit an essay graded by your teacher along with the applicant essays, I believe.

“You’re supposed to submit an essay graded by your teacher along with the applicant essays, I believe.”

In other words, a paper you wrote for school.

Ah, not just a paper though. It has to be graded…
which I’m having problems with, because I know I’ve written much better essays for school than the one I’m submitting, but none have been returned with grades.

Oh, I just received my scores from the SSATs.
98% x3

Bump~~
:3

is anyone putting in a science lab analysis? I do really well on those…

What’s that?..
