Chance Me?

Hi, I am applying to pitt this fall and it is my first choice school and I would like if anyone can help by "chancing me".

Stats:

applying to school of arts and sciences: poly sci major

SAT: M 530 CR 650 W 590--total 1770 or 1180
G.P.A: 4.14 weighted. 3.5 unweighted
Rank: top 40%, 60 out of 200 (at a competitive catholic school)
Activities: too many too list, lots of leadership, sports letters, community service, jobs etc.
Essays: very good. writing is one of my best talents. my dad who is a corporate speech writer will edit.
Teacher recs: one strong, one very strong
Guidance rec: very strong (recommended me for a young leader award I won)

Senior Schedule: AP Gov, Honors bio 2, Hnrs religion, Honors spanish 3, world lit, Trig, Advanced vocal music 4

Additional info: I am a urm (hispanic), I wrote my one essay about being a magician (tricks) i suppose it is fairly unique. Oh! Also, I realize my math sat score is very low. It will be explained by my guidance counselor due to the fact I have a documented math learning disability

Pitt’s CDS stats form 2010 are 1170-1370. 85% of students are in the top quarter of their graduating class. Average GPA is 3.91.

I think, with being an urm, you are probably in good shape, but shouldn’t feel safe. Where you are from will also play a role, because they like to recruit underrepresented geographic areas as well. Make sure you show interest in Pitt by attending their on-campus events, and apply as early as possible (rolling admissions favors those who apply early).

I am from Pittsburgh and I go to a school from which Pitt accepts lots of very qualified people from each year, mainly for pre-med and engineering. I’m sure that makes it harder for me. I have gone to a tour day “So you want to be a lawyer” and stuff, so I have the demonstrated interest.

Maybe you can answer my question. I know for the rolling admission applying early is key. I have my application submitted already. I just need to have my transcripts/SAT’s and supplemental info (essays, letters of rec, etc) and then they will begin evaluating me. I am scheduled to retake the SAT. The scores wont come out until November. I could send my first scores now and be evaluated early on and if deferred, resend the newer, hopefully better scores. Or I can just wait to see if the new scores are better and only send those. Would you have any insight on this subject?

I can’t answer that question. Someone else may be able to, or perhaps you should call Pitt Admissions. Good luck. I hope you get in.

Ok thanks for the help! My school is having a college night soon and Pitt representatives will be there. Perhaps I can ask one of them.

MagicMatt, do you mind to answer this question after you got the answer ? cause i got the same problem too
