UW GPA: 3.1

3 Honors Classes, 2 AP’s Junior Year. APUSH and AP Lang, passed both tests with a 3. This year i have AP’s Bio, Calc AB, Lit, Econ, and Gov. I’m a cross country runner, with intentions of walking on the team. (i know for a fact i would be a valuable addition to the team)

I know my GPA is low, and so is my class rank, 54% percentile. I could have great letters of rec from multiple teachers, as well as community service. My interest is CS/Aerospace engineering. I’ve babysat for at least 4 years every weekend, idk if that counts for anything. Honest chance? and if my chances are low, what can I do to raise them? I’d really really like to go to CPP. thanks!

i forgot to mention that i got a 1660 on my SAT, 560 on Writing, 560 on Math, 540 on Reading. first time i took it, taking it again in November.

I think it will depend on what you want to major in. You said Aerospace Engineering/CS, so which one would you actually put on your application? I think you have a decent chance, but a higher SAT score would benefit you. Most Cal States won’t look at your extracurricular activities (like babysitting). I had a 3.5 GPA and 1680 on the SAT, 590 Math, and 550 Reading and got in being undecided. I think if you increase your SAT score, you will have a good chance.

Also, another thing. If you are very certain about going into Aerospace Engineering, put that down as your major. Basically all of the engineering majors are impacted and won’t let you change of major into engineering until you are an upper division student. I am undecided and now have to major in CS then switch to Computer Engineering during my junior year. So save yourself the hassle if you are sure of Aerospace Engineering.
