Chance me :)

... for Barnard and Columbia?

I'm a junior in high school, I've attended public school in the USA so far but I'm moving to Turkey next year and will be home-schooled online. I'll still be able to take AP classes and such.

ACT score: 33, not sure if I should re-take it or take the SAT instead.
Unweighted GPA: 4.0

My school doesn't rank the students so I don't know /exactly/ where I stand, and I don't know if my online school will either, but if I had to guess I'd say I'm at least in the top 5 percent at my current high school.

Honors/AP classes:
-All honors classes offered in 9th and 10th grade.
-11th grade - AP Psych, AP English Lang & Comp, and AP US History. I'm also taking Dual Enrollment PreCal and Pre-AP Chemistry
-Next year I'll take AP Computer Science, AP Calculus AB, AP Government, AP Physics B, and AP Lit. I'll also be taking French III and French IV.

ECs, volunteer, etc.:
-Helped plan the Mother's Day marketing campaign for a local business
-Played clarinet since 7th grade
-was in the band from 7th to 10th grade, marching band in 9th and 10th. I only quit because it restricted my class schedule by two blocks and I wouldn't be able to take some of the classes I wanted.
-I was a member of NHS, FBLA, and French club in 10th and 11th grade but I won't be next year since I'm going to be home schooled
-I've done lots of (volunteer) tutoring on my own, and started a little tutoring club, not affiliated with my school
-I plan on doing more tutoring overseas
-I'm going to work over the summer and probably through next year at an insurance company

I also plan on applying Early Decision to one of those colleges, and I know that boosts your admissions chances a little since the pool of applicants is smaller.

If you think my chances are low, could you please offer suggestions on what to improve, and also which colleges (also in New York, preferably) might be more in-reach? Thanks in advance!

Columbia: Reach
Barnard: High match

There’s nothing wrong with having these two as reaches; in this situation I’d ED at Columbia. But you can still try Fordham, City College, or perhaps Bryn Mawr…

Thanks, especially for the suggestion on where to ED. I was torn on that (and still am really), but I was actually leaning toward Barnard until now, to play it kind of safe.

Barnard: Match

Wait, are you considered an international applicant?

No, I’m a US citizen. I don’t think you’re considered international unless you’re not a US citizen, or you attend a school that isn’t similar to US-style schools, if that makes sense.

Looking back at my OP, I left out an EC. I’m also on the math team, and I won a few awards at competitions. Not sure if it makes much of a difference, but I wanted to add it.

Anyone else? :)
