Chance me?

3.61 weighted GPA at a top GA HS (rigor rating 7)
34 ACT

Extracurriculars are okay, ranging from Commander of my JROTC unit to Debate Team. I've played instruments and played tennis but not at school or for my schools team. I've done a bit of volunteering and am a member of Beta Club. I have 7 APs as well.

I'm worried that my GPA is too low and my extracurriculars could use work. If my senior year first semester grades count then it'll be a 3.72. I also had a 10 day suspension sophomore year because I accidentally brought a weapon to school but I confessed to the administration and they gave me grace because of that. I'm hoping to explain that on the common app but I'm not sure how much that will hurt me.

I would see if that suspension is going to show up or what will be mentioned by your school before you put in your common app.

I’m afraid that they’ll find out somehow and deny me. I’ll ask my councilor but I’m 99% sure she’s going to tell me to be honest.

I’m not saying to lie just make sure you know what the school and transcripts are going to say before you put it out there. Honestly I think the weapon thing may hurt your chances so you need to know exactly how much detail they are going into with regard to the details. I believe there was an instate CCer that applied this year and had a good GPA/stats however she had a suspension for drinking and she wasn’t admitted.

@MichiganGeorgia‌ Yeah that’s what I’m afraid of. It shows up on my transcript even though admin told me it wouldn’t so I’ll have to check with my counselor once school starts back up. From what I’ve heard it shouldn’t hurt too much, just the deciding factor if I’m right on the edge, which I might be.

On a side note, would selecting the summer semester as my preferred starting term in the common app increase my chances? I’m just trying to find anything to increase my chances no matter the cost.
