CHANCE ME

Hey Guys!

So first, I want to apologize for posting a chance me discussion, because I KNOW CC isn't really a big fan. I just want another person's opinion to see if I should apply or not, (well, it has been my dream for while), and I want to see if I am a good match. Just be honest with me, I respect it! I'll try to chance back too! By the way, if I get poor feedback, It doesn't really affect me too much because I love what I do, and try my best at school and in my ECs. Anyway, let's take a look:
I'm a Junior BTW

Objective:

•SAT I (breakdown): 2350 - 1600/1600
•ACT: Not submitting.
•SAT II: Didn't take yet, but expecting 750ish
•Unweighted GPA (out of 4.0): 3.98
•Rank (percentile if rank is unavailable): 1/300
•AP (place score in parenthesis): None yet, school doesn't offer much too many
•IB (place score in parenthesis):
•Junior Year Course Load: AP Bio, APUSH, Physics H, English H, Spanish H, Pre-calc H.
•Senior Year Course Load: AP Chem, AP Physics, AP English, AP Spanish, AP Calc BC, AP Stat
•Major Awards (USAMO, Intel etc.): Some school awards like best athlete, etc. Most notable include 10th in the nation in FBLA/1st in State/5th in state for public speaking. Nothing too crazy...

Subjective:
•Extracurriculars (place leadership in parenthesis): Class President, FBLA State Officer, FBLA Local Chapter President, National Honor Society (president), Spanish Honor Society (vice president), Varsity Soccer (4 years) Varsity Track and Field (3 years) and Varsity Basketball (3 years).
•Job/Work Experience: Interned at an IT Firm over the summer. Started my own company (not for colleges, but because I love what I do and I feel like I learned a lot from this IT Firm to start my own company. We'll see how it goes though...)
•Volunteer/Community service: Tutoring, and some other stuff (~100hrs)
•Summer Activities: Interning, hopefully governor's school
•Essays (rating 1-10, details): Not the greatest writer, so I'm expecting ~7.5 for both.
•Recommendations (rating 1-10, details): •Teacher Rec #1: AMAZING
•Teacher Rec #2: Strong
•Counselor Rec: Okay...

Other
•School Type: Public
•Ethnicity: African American
•Gender: Male
•Income Bracket: Low
•Hooks (URM, first generation college, etc.): URM, low income, first generation.

So that's me in a nutshell. A few things I would want you to know about me are that I am very social and LOVE to have fun. I can be serious, but I'm just as playful. I visited Harvard recently and fell in love, but I'm between Harvard and Stanford EA. If any of you guys actually read everything, and you don't think I would fit at Harvard or have a poor chance of getting in, feel free to suggest another college! Or just suggest another college anyway that you think I would fit at! I either want to major in the sciences or business!

I would be completely shocked if you didn’t get in.

Thanks dude! I really appreciate the feedback. Definitely reassuring!

Your chances are much higher than average.

Thanks guys! Anyone want to suggest some schools I should think about? I think my scores allow for flexibility, but I’m very well-rounded, social, fun, but also very studious and diligent. Anyone know any schools I would fit at? While I’m low income, I also desire some exposure to an elitist college life, if that makes sense.

You’ll have a good shot almost anywhere. If I were in your shoes, I’d aim for the best, Princeton, and also consider Harvard, Stanford, Williams, Pomona, Yale, and a few others. Have you looked into Questbridge? They help high achieving low income applicants with the process.
http://www.questbridge.org/index.php</a></p>

Definitely consider QuestBridge. Keep up the good work, and you’re in!!!

Harvard and Stanford don’t offer a business major so keep that in mind.

First things first, great work! UPenn has a great business school (Wharton) and so does University of Michigan (Ross), so you may be interested in those options as well. I hope your hard work pays off in spades; best of luck to you in your future!

Thanks for the input guys! I really appreciate the feedback! I will continue to work hard and try my best, I really hope that you guys get into your dream schools!

First I would like to congratulate you on your fantastic extra cirricular involvement and academic acheievment, bravo!! However in the most realistic case this is Harvard. There is a possiblilty that you are qualified but on the other hand students who score perfect SATs with more involement in school and out still don’t get accepted. My father, grandfather and brother have gone to Harvard and each had to struggle stupendously to managa to get in. I am applying to HArvard also in hopes I get. I just wish for you to be aware of the pssibilities because Harvard’s acceptance rates have alternated over the past few years and even the cream of the crop gets regected. However overall very impressive and i highly believe you’ll get in. Keep up the great work

You are amazing!!! In for sure!

The only reason you wouldn’t get in is because you are a complete jerk. Anyone who posts their stats that could get them into any college in the world is probably just showing off instead of actually wondering what their chances are. If this is true, this has got to be the most qualified application this year for the entire senior classes

@AnthonyQ thanks for the motivation! I really try hard in what I do, and I really hope to see myself there, and hopefully you too!
@hitgirl Thanks! I really appreciate it!
@ExeterKid31‌ I’m currently a junior, and while I am flattered that you think my extracurricular activities and academic performance is unrealistic; they’re true! And the reason why I posted my stats was not to “show off”… if you take a look at anyone else’s stats on this site, you’ll see that they beat my stats easily and are much more impressive than me. I posted it for some honest feedback, and I really hope you don’t think I’m a jerk, because I am really passionate in what I do and was genuinely looking for some honest critique to understand where I stand in the application process next year. Thanks though!

“if you take a look at anyone else’s stats on this site, you’ll see that they beat my stats easily and are much more impressive than me.” Yes, because I am sure that everyone on this website can beat a 2350 and a 3.98 GPA!

@Harvardfanatic10: You’re new here, so possibly you haven’t seen this thread: <a href=“Reminder: No one, not even me, can give you an accurate chance at MIT! - Massachusetts Institute of Technology - College Confidential Forums”>http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/massachusetts-institute-technology/939227-reminder-no-one-not-even-me-can-give-you-an-accurate-chance-at-mit-p1.html</a>. It’s about MIT, but holds true as well for Harvard.

If you look through Harvard’s 2018 SCEA Decision thread, many students with your stats were both accepted and deferred: <a href=“***Official Harvard University 2018 SCEA Decisions ONLY*** - Harvard University - College Confidential Forums”>http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/harvard-university/1586643-official-harvard-university-2018-scea-decisions-only-p1.html</a>.

You sound like a wonderful candidate, but recommendations and essays will probably determine the outcome, and those haven’t been written yet.

Best of luck to you!

@gibby Thanks for the feedback, I really appreciate it and respect your thoughts! Just a quick note: I’m not relatively new here; I’ve been a lurker for about 6 years now. With that said, I am aware of that MIT post, but I chose to post anyway because hearing what other people think is important sometimes too. Thanks for the reminder though!

@ExeterKid31‌ You’d be surprised by the amount of 2400’s and 4.0 GPAs you see here. And assuming you’re from Exeter from your username, that’s a pretty big accomplishment by itself, so congrats if you are from Exeter!

You earned a varsity letter for soccer while in the 8th grade? Good on ya, if that’s the case.

Well, you have to take into urm as well, since the poster is african american
