Please take a look at this post from an MIT Admissions Director on chance posting, as everything in it applies to Harvard as well: http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/massachusetts-institute-technology/939227-reminder-no-one-not-even-me-can-give-you-an-accurate-chance-at-mit-p1.html
You seem like a wonderful candidate, as are the thousands of other students who apply and are rejected. As Harvard receives more applications from qualified applicants than they have seats in the freshman class, Admissions uses a student’s essays, teacher recommendations, guidance counselor report (SSR) and interview report to select one high-performing student over another. As you haven’t posted any of that information (nor should you), the most anyone can say is that your test scores and GPA make you a qualified applicant. Beyond that, it’s anyone’s guess. Best of luck to you!
your a likely candidate
^^ That’s from a fellow applicant who doesn’t know the difference between “your” and “you’re.”
FWIW: Harvard Admissions is very quirky – they like who they like and don’t pay that much attention to GPA and test scores. You’d think that a student with perfect everything would be a shoe-in, but sometimes that’s not the case. To wit: My son was rejected from Harvard with a 4.0 GPA and a 36 ACT, but accepted at Yale and Princeton. Go figure.
Way to evoke the welcoming community @gibby . This is like maybe the 15th time someone corrected my grammar on College Confidential. Might I remind everyone that this does not have to be a completely formal discussion. I don’t feel the need to correct my grammar if my point is understandable.
