Chance Me?

So, here’s the deal: I’m a quadruplet (which is like triplets plus one more) and I’m trying to go to college. I’m a junior and I want to get into an “elite” college (obviously Princeton, but possibly Georgetown ). I’m also an African American male if that helps.

Current Course Load: Honors Physics, AP Biology, AP Language and Composition, Honors Pre-Calculus, Government, Latin III.

*Senior year I will be taking all AP classes, except for one, art, because it’s a requirement at my school.

Unweighted GPA: 3.79
Weighted GPA: 4.33
ACT Score: 30 (This was my first try, I plan on taking it again)
Class Rank: Top 10%-- 72/732, but that is subject to change of course
Extracurriculars: Varsity Football, Varsity Track, Officer in School Cultural Club, Tutor at local elementary school, I am an applicant to NSLI-Y a exchange program funded by the State Department-- I am a semi-finalist and await the results but if I make it I’ll spend the summer in the middle east learning Arabic and will return extremely proficient as a result, 20 hours a week working at Old Navy.

I want to apply for SFS or McDonough.

Any feedback is greatly appreciated.

As of right now, you stand a pretty decent chance of getting in. You need to take 3 subject tests, as well, so don’t forget those. Your ACT score needs to go up without question. Also, you didn’t provide much detail on your ECs so while they look decent, I can’t tell if they are “fluff” or if you have leadership positions or are very invested in them… Those are things that matter to Georgetown. They want “world-changers” and people who are passionate. Your course load is rigorous enough to be a competitive applicant in that regard. My general advice to you would be to keep on working hard all the way through first semester senior year, and see where that gets you.

I will say this – while you might be somewhat competitive for Georgetown, as of right now I wouldn’t call you competitive for Princeton. Princeton’s acceptance rate is half of Georgetown’s, and you need a phenomenal record in every way to stand a decent chance of getting in to Pton. Not saying it can’t be done, but that you should really work on involving yourself in those activities and doing your best to be the best person you can – because that’s what Princeton asks of their applicants (be the best you can be). Same holds true for GU of course.

Best of luck to you, and don’t forget: of COURSE you have a chance! You even have a better chance than many others right now! Might as well continue to work to make that chance even better. Good luck with the rest of your junior year.

@gu2020 Here is an update of my stats: Stats:

Unweighted GPA: 3.79
Weighted GPA: 4.27
ACT Score: 30 (Taking it again of course)
Class Rank: Top 10%-- 72/732, but that is subject to change of course

Extracurriculars:
Varsity Football (Decent, but not recuritable)
Varsity Track (Same as above)
Communications Officer in School Cultural Club,
Tutor at local elementary school
I also tutor struggling high school students
National Security Language Initiative for Youth scholarship recipient. I will go to Morocco on a State Department scholarship to learn Arabic this summer and will return fluent in the language as a result (it is highly selective and very intensive)
Work around 15 hours a week at Old Navy
Member of Model UN
NHS

Current Course Load: Honors Physics, AP Biology, AP Language and Composition, Honors Pre-Calculus, Government, Latin III.

*Senior year I will be taking all AP classes, except for one, art, because it’s a requirement at my school.

Caveats:
Fluent in Arabic (expected)
Black Male
Quadruplet
(I guess I could incorporate these things into my essays)

Misc:
Not Disadvantaged
Upper Middle Class (but will still need lots of aid)

Major:
International Relations, Economics, Arabic, Near Eastern Studies

Summary: So what’s changed is I got that State Dept scholarship (which is really selective, like 7% acceptance rate, so only 200 people got into the Arabic program), I added Model UN (I was in it before), and NHS.
