Chance me?

I’m 12 (almost 13), female, and in 8th grade. I’m looking at applying to Emma Willard, Chatham Hall, Mercersburg, and Exeter - possibly more, not sure yet.

Anyway, can you chance me for those?

SSAT: Not yet, but practice tests around 2100
Grades: All A’s except gym which is a B
EC’s: Swimming for 3 years, volleyball 1 year, and student helper (working in the office)
Volunteering: I have volunteered with the same activity every year for as long as I can remember because my dad is an organizer and because I enjoy it. Also collecting items for Christmas Cheer annually, Helped build a greenhouse for a local farmer’s co-op. Also, I modeled and proof-read for a domestic violence awareness campaign with the local native friendship centre.
Clubs: Girl Guides until it was no longer offered in town (from brownies to guides) including going to camp every year, and participation in an aboriginal youth group.
Other: Almost fluent in French, into art (visual), dual citizen US/Canada
Hook: Native American

I do need quite a lot (almost full) FA, and have not yet done my interviews.

What do you think my chances are?

Thanks!

From what I understand, being a URM is a significant hook for applicants that can demonstrate they are able to do the work (which it appears that you can) and who will “fit” well within the school community, however it is that each school makes that determination. That said, I also understand that if an applicant needs substantial FA there needs to be particular care given to the number and mix of schools on your application list. You may want to consider adding 2+ carefully selected schools to your list to improve your chances of getting the level of FA that you require.

Have you looked at how your swimming times compare with the athletes at your target schools? If you can make an impact on their team right away that would also be a good hook for you and you should be getting in touch directly with coaches if you haven’t already done so already.

what is an FA?

@turtlenicole
FA=Financial Aid
URM=Under Represented Minority

thank you!
