I am a Pakistani citizen so guys please chance me and i wish to apply for Mechanical Engineering. If there are other universities i have a chance in and are good in Mechanical Engineering please do mention them. I am also applying for need based financial aid.

My school doesn’t do class ranks but i’ll be among top 5 students out of a class of 309.

@Hussainkestrel Did you already apply early decision or are you applying for regular decision in January?

Based on your academics alone I would say you have a very good chance. As you know, Cornell and the other Ivies are a big stretch for everyone regardless of scores. Even if you were perfect, they only take 15% of people who apply. Your ECs are also very good, especially the volunteer work. The one thing that is weak in your statistics is the lack of anything related to engineering in your biography. How will you prove you want to be a mechanical engineer? Have you done any interesting projects that demonstrate engineering knowledge?

Also, have you visited Cornell and walked around their ME department? You can still get in without visiting, but you will need to convince them, beyond grades, that you are the right student for their College of Engineering.

Other great mechanical engineering schools are Georgia Tech in Atlanta, Clemson University in South Carolina, and University of Colorado in Boulder.

I applied to Engineering as well. Maybe we’ll be classmates next year.

Good luck.

Oh regarding engineering, my father is a civil engineer and i have assisted him as internee so should i add that too? I was exposed to engineering through him. I will apply regular.

@cotopaxi Thanks btw :slight_smile:

And my second preference is Civil Engineering.

@Hussainkestrel Yes, definitely mention your internship with civil engineering. Maybe just mention the name of your father’s company and not that you worked for your father. Also, consider Rensselaer polytechnic institute in New York for Mechanical and both North Carolina State University, Georgia Tech, and University of South Carolina for Civil Engineering. All are great schools and Georgia Tech is considered a top 10 university for engineering. Cornell is just really hard to get into if you are an international student and cannot pay full price. I also visited all of the schools I mentioned so I know them very well. I have applied to all of them.
