@gucci8 : What academic interests do you plan to highlight in your application? I would say it’s a match for WFU, GW, and “maybe” BU. slight reach to reach for others. They are more unpredictable and it really just depends on their application volume and how you stand out. I am assuming “scholastic” means “in-house” (in your school) as opposed to the national, regional, or state level awards. Great stats, qualified, but a reach because you may not stand out with Tufts, Gtown, Emory, and Fordham ( I put basically all the very selective/top private research U’s and LACs in the reach column for those with on point stats that look a little stereotypical for the app. pool. A good amount of such folks will get in and many will not because who knows why. I would only call some below the top 10 R-1 schools a match if your stats are high AND your ECs include some national or international distinction and are not very common). They will deny many applicants with those credentials so you must write well. Also, I think there is a more general chance thread for if you are interested in those schools, but not Emory in particular. If Emory, we would likely want to know which supplement you chose to write about and again, more details about things you did in HS. But either way, you of course have a shot. Just apply and cross your fingers. Nothing is guaranteed or remotely safe/great chances for these type of schools. Even if you are good, odds are rarely in your favor.

@gucci8
Emory- Low Reach
Wake Forest- Low Match
Georgetown- Low Reach
GW- Low Match
Tufts- High Match
Boston University- Match
Fordham- safety
Great stats, what do you plan on studying, what about Emory interests you?

Thank you for your responses. I am interested in studying International Relations and Politcal Economy. I took AP Macro and Micro as a sophomore and loved it. I scored 5’s on both exams. I have attended Yale Model UN since freshman year and this year I am President. The ability to tie my love for economics with my passion for global human rights and politics has led me to IR and PE.

I loved Emory for many reasons. I felt at home on the campus immediately. The opportunity to study IR at such a highly esteemed school is incredible and the bonds I could forge with my professors is tremendously important to me. I could literally go on and on and name 100 things I loved, but working collaboratively and knowing that I have the ability to make a difference in the world through research and dedication is paramount to me.

These schools actually would all be pretty good in those areas (they are all pretty highly esteemed). GTown is of course the big name in it and I guess is in the obvious location, but undergraduate education in those and related areas is really strong at Emory and it is more personable than many similar sized privates so those connections with professors may be more common.

@VANDEMORY1342 : Tufts is harder to get into than Emory. It and Georgetown are much more “reachy”. Emory may be technically stronger in some ways as an institution, but no doubt Tufts is more selective, especially when it comes to scores (scores are a bit more tightly clustered. The top students look the same, but the bottom students have stronger scores there. They are probably getting a higher volume of applicants in the OPs range if I had to guess. Makes sense, they are in Boston…go figure) and admit rate. You have to move that to the reach column. If it weren’t for what is likely the more serious interview process at Georgetown, I would say that Tufts is a tougher bird than both. Emory and Georgetown are most similar. Now that I have looked it up, I would have to put it in a higher reach category. However if the person doesn’t get into Tufts, it may not be that big of a loss if they gain admission to Emory, Fordham, or Gtown (all schools that seem especially good in the areas of interest).

@bernie12 Maybe, I personally was going off of recent SAT scores, but the varying acceptance rates might matter more.

Thank you for your input!
