Chance me ?

I am currently a senior in high school with a 4.2 gpa. I am a year ahead in math, I’ve taken more than several community college courses, gotten nearly straight As, and got a 28 on the ACT and am currently 3rd in my class. I should even be getting an honors diploma. However, I have only taken on an average amount of extracurricular activities. I plan on majoring in computer science or engineering. What are my chances of getting into Ohio State, Baldwin Wallace, Kent, or John Carroll?

Since all of the schools that you mention are in Ohio, I am going to guess that you are in-state for OSU. Given this, I think that your chances are very good for all of the universities that you mentioned.

I see on prepscholar that the average ACT for OSU is 29. You are of course very close to this and above their 25th percentile. Your strong GPA and course rigor and high class rank I think is very likely to make up for your being one point lower on the ACT than average for OSU. Extracurriculars are very important for the tippy top schools such as Harvard or Stanford, but with 46,000 undergrads at their main campus OSU is going to be accepting quite a few students with only average or less than average extracurriculars.

How much ACT preparation have you done? If you have done quite a bit then I think that you will be fine with 28 on the ACT. If you have done very little preparation then you could do more preparation and see if you can get this up a little bit.

Your GPA and course rigor in high school is the best predictor that there is with regard to how well you are likely to do in university. To me your GPA and course rigor look solidly strong enough for all of the schools that you mentioned.

Of course, if you are in-state in Ohio then your guidance counselor should know The Ohio State University very well and will know better than I what your chances are.

You may want to consider U. of Akron. They have a great engineering program and you may qualify for honors college.
