MASTERWORK-An optional program for seniors in which they create a project of sorts by integrating a passion of theirs with academic interests. I plan to create a graphic novel, about approx 100 pages in length. It will be an integration of my interests in graphic novels/comic books and my academic interests in writing, philosophy, and art. It's still being created, but I'm excited to present it at the end of the year ^_^

Ok, yeah, long list...Um, my GPA is pretty low, I know. I excel in history, english, language, and art, while math and science bring me down...I'm not sure what I plan to major in, but am interested in international relations, linguistics, philosophy, and psychology.

I will have excellent recs from english, spanish, and art teachers.

Could you chance me at Oberlin please? I may apply EDII...Not too sure yet.

Thanks :]

Just to clarify something for you, you said that you're interested in linguistics, international relations, philosophy, and psychology. However, Oberlin doesn't offer a major in linguistics- if you're interested in it though, it's one of the fields that the Anthropology department offers courses in. Also, there is no international relations major, but only a concentration, which I'm considering doing. So you could be a politics major with a concentration in international studies for instance. It involves core courses in international relations/politics, international economics, a modern language (fourth semester or equivalent), and then five additional classes from a list that includes a diverse assortment from different departments.

As for your chances...I have no idea. I think college admissions is always a total crapshoot. Your GPA is slightly worrisome, as is the rather conspicuous low number of AP classes. Write some good essays, have good recommendations, and be very interested. There's never any harm in applying.

My school offers the following AP listed courses

AP Literature
AP French
AP Spanish
Calculus
AP Biology

So, not too many in the first place. And given the rigor of my school, many graduates have gone onto places like Stanford having only taken 3 AP courses at most. Furthermore, an 11th grade American Lit class at my school is considered Honors Literature at my local public school.

That's just some context for you.

Further thoughts?

You've got a good shot. No one can really say if you'll get in or not.

I'll just say this. I was an extraordinarily lazy high school student, and I didn't consider anything I did to be particularly impressive. College admissions is often a nonsensical thing. No one can tell you your likelihood of acceptance anywhere, unless you're an utterly abysmal student.
