My chances?

Hello everyone.

After some thorough searching and selecting, I've at last made a final college list of where I plan to apply, filled with, IMO, some safeties, some matches, and some reaches. Below are my stats:

Highschool type: Small, private, college prep school in Arizona
GPA: At the time of application, about a 3.4 or 3.5
ACT score: 29, writing 10
Courses:

9th grade
Geometry
Spanish II
Biology
Computer Science/Web Design
Literature and Writing
World History

10th grade
Advanced Algebra
Spanish III
Physics
Art I
Forms in Literature
European History

11th grade
Functions, Statistics, and Trigonometry
Spanish IV
Chemistry
Art II
American Literature
U.S. History

12th grade
Pre-Calculus
AP Spanish
Creative Writing/Connections (basically a philosophy class)
Advanced Art
AP Literature
Journalism
Masterwork: a unique program that seniors may choose to do in which they pursue a passion by integrating personal interests with academic interests to create an individualized senior project. Again, this is not required...Counts as a credit, and is rigorous. I plan to create a 100-200 page graphic novel.

ECs and the like:

-President of class in 9th grade
-Vice President of class in 10th grade
-Secretary of class in 12th grade
-National Art Honor Society member...May be V.P. during senior year
-Student Recruitment Committee
-Contributed to the enhancement of school website through web design class
-Summer of Art workshops in Tucson AZ during the summers before 9 and 10 grade. Work was placed in a local art show, some work even bought by a university professor to be used in an architecture class (weird..lol)
-Had honor roll for all of 9th grade, one semester of 10 and one semester of 11
-Took Japanese language classes at the community college for one semester in sophomore year. I didn't do too well in the class, but I'm studying abroad in Tokyo this summer to learn more of the language, and plan to further my Japanese language studies this fall of my senior year by repeating the class...Dedication, lol

In need of Fin. Aid?: No

Hook: Being from AZ, masterwork, studying abroad and japanese language studies

And I'm sure I'll write a killer essay.

Schools to which I want to apply:

REED COLLEGE (top choice, applying EDII)
-I had a rather good interview and have attended all of their local visits to my area and have visited the campus twice...Plan to spend the night and attend a Hum 110 lecture in the fall.

UNIVERSITY OF CHICAGO (applying EA)

LEWIS AND CLARK COLLEGE (applying EA)
-I had an absolutely excellent interview, with the interviewer even proclaiming me to be a "good fit" and in "good shape" for admission.

WHITMAN COLLEGE
-Again, excellent interview.

BARD COLLEGE

GRINNELL COLLEGE
-I have a legacy as my father attended

SKIDMORE COLLEGE

IMO, I would see my school choices as...

Reed-reachy match
UChicago-reach
L&C-safety/match
Whitman-reachy match
Bard-safety/match
Grinnell-match
Skidmore-safety

...But what do you all think?

Thank you ^^

I think you'll be fine...

My turn! hehe

Well, I'm gonna be a junior in August. I so far have a very crappy SAT score. I have ~1550. I am the top 5 in all of my classes. Freshmen and sophomore year, I had a 4.0 GPA, weighted it should be ~4.17. I have 5 clubs that I am in and I am an officer in one of them.

What do you think my chances are to get a 2000 my the 2008 March test date? What should I do?

Also what are my chances getting into:
University of Southern California
University of California- Berkeley
University of Michigan- Ann Arbor
New York University
Farfetch: University of Pennsylvania

Extracurricular activities sophomore year: (All I am planning to continue till graduation)
Operation Smile
Honor Society
American Cancer Society (officer next year)
Key Club
Kids to Kids

Community Service:
So far I have >100 hours just in sophomore year, and I am planning on doing >250 hours by the end of junior year.

Class took and planning on taking:

Freshmen- no weighted class
English I
Chinese 3 Honors
PE
SRC/ IC3 (Required class)
Geometry
Art

Sophomore- one weighted class
Modern World History
Chemistry Honors
Chinese 4 AP
English II Honors
PE (Mandatory)
Algebra II/ Trig Honors

Junior-4 weighted classes
Modern American History
Chemistry AP
Chinese 5 AP
English III Honors
Journalism I
Math Anaylsis/ Calculus I Honors (counted as AP)

Senior- 4 or 5 weighted classes
History AP (not sure what yet)
Physics (Honors maybe)
English IV AP
Journalism II
Calculus II AP
Statistics AP

My cousin went to USC but don't know if that's considered as alumni or not.

flh91...make your own thread.

Oni, I think your overestimating yourself. If you think Bard is a safety, you might want to find a few more. The average GPA is 3.5...and you haven't taken that hard of a courseload. What's your rank?

Oni, Reed looks like a reach. Compared to the data at <a href="http://web.reed.edu/ir/cds/cds0607/cdssecc200607.html%5B/url%5D">http://web.reed.edu/ir/cds/cds0607/cdssecc200607.html</a>, your ACT is low, your GPA is low, and your course load doesn't make up for it. L&C looks like a match.

Please remember my school offers NO HONORS COURSES, and only about 7 APs:

AP Literature
AP Calculus
AP Biology
AP Spanish
AP French
AP US History
AP Politics

Furthermore, given the rigor of my school, many teachers and even my GC reccommends that taking more than 2-3 APs can perhaps be a tad much. And the masterwork program is a demanding one. Lastly, I tend to believe colleges will notice the fact that I'm pursuing courses of interest, yet simultaneously challenging myself...And the middle 50% of Reed accepted freshmen for this year's applicant pool had ACT scores from 28-30, so having a 29 actually isn't "low." I've also satisfied all of Reed's high school unit recommendations, as demonstrated by my course load above...

My school does not rank, but given the performance of my classmates, I would say I'm in the top 50% of my class.

Oni, are you going to interview at any of these places? Also make sure your essays are on point, most people under-estimate the value of that.

Reed-low reach
UChicago-reach
L&C-likely
Whitman-high match
Bard-high match
Grinnell-match
Skidmore-match

I want my cookie! ^_^ lol

As indicated in my introductory post, I've had interviews at Reed, L&C, and Whitman. I may have an interview at Bard aswell, but that's undecided.

gives imaginary cookie to OrangeGlove

Have you had the chance to visit Grinnell. I definatly think thats a match for you and its just got the most amazing campus and facilities.

I'd say that UChicago is a reach.
Skidmore is a match.
Reed i see as a high match.
Unfortunatly I don't know enough about Bard/Whitman.

And also what about ED? Any idea where you might want to throw that.

I will be applying EDII to Reed, and EA to Lewis and Clark (maybe EA to UChicago aswell.)

I haven't visited Grinnell, but I've done alot of research on it and really like the school.

opps, sorry

bump....................................

bump, please???

bump bump bump

bump, please?

bump, please?
