Chance me?

I'm not sure of my chances, honestly...

Colleges applied to: Kenyon, Oberlin, Smith, Wellesley
Accepted already: Indiana University, Purdue University, Butler, DePauw University

SAT: 1890 (710 CR, 710 W, 470 Math. I got a 12 on my essay)
GPA: 3.5
Extra-curriculars: Theatre (600+ volunteer hours), speech team (100+ competition hours), Amnesty International, Student Advocates of Gender Equality (V.P.), Japanese hosting/exchange program, writing/reading/art club (president)
Awards: Entire department awards, "Wellesley Book Award," NCTE Nominee, AP Scholar with Honor. I have also won/placed in many creative writing competitions.

I've taken rigorous honors/AP courses in English and history and gotten 4s on all the tests I've taken. I've worked for a year as a children's math tutor and am currently working at the public library.

I'm a strong writer, just bad at math and standardized tests...blech.I'm going for an English and women's/gender studies double major with a minor in a language. So...give it to me straight, I guess. I know my essays are really strong n and my interviews seemed to go alright. Thanks.

Your GPA seems a little low, but if it's unweighted it should work against you too much. :) You sound a lot like me (theatre, speech, writing, president of clubs, etc...), and I would've also applied to Kenyon and Wellesley if I hadn't gone ED for Smith! From what I've gathered and seen from my own application, Smith understands that not every person is amazing at every subject. Math is not my strong point, and science was my lowest ACT score (yet somehow I got 36s on the English sections?). Like most colleges, they look for improvement and persistence in academic areas as well as extra-curriculars. I can't say for sure, but you at least have a shot! Good luck!

P.S. You can't double major with a minor, sadly-- you can major, double major, or major with a minor. :)

Oh, one more thing. Have you gotten a chance to interview?

Having low math scores isn't the end of the world. My math SAT was only 540, and they still took me. If you've taken challenging courses and done pretty well in them, and if you've done okay in your math courses, then having low SATs shouldn't rule them out.

And yes, you can't double major and minor. Though if you're just interested in learning a language, you can always just take a lot of foreign language courses.
